My Line (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 15
Ra In returned home, half out of her mind. Joo Hyuk was already there, and on the dining table sat fried chicken and the beer Ra In loved.
Joo Hyuk, who seemed to have been dozing off on the sofa, greeted her with half-lidded eyes. Seeing Ra In still in her work attire, he opened his eyes wide.
“Where’ve you been? You said it was nearby.”
“There was just something I had to take care of. I met someone.”
The lie she’d concocted on the way home was nothing more than that—she’d gone to meet someone.
“Sunbae, I haven’t eaten anything all day today.”
Changing the subject, Ra In took off her outerwear, quickly washed her hands, and sat down at the table. Then she immediately popped open a beer can.
“The chicken’s probably cold by now.”
“It’s fine.”
“You barely eat as it is—how nice would it be if you could enjoy it warm and delicious.”
Joo Hyuk placed a plump chicken leg in front of Ra In.
“Sunbae.”
Ra In looked at him with an unusually serious expression, as if she wanted to say something important.
“Yeah, go ahead and tell me.”
“Am I… ill-mannered?”
Taken aback by the sudden question, Joo Hyuk tilted his head in confusion.
“Why all of a sudden?”
“No… I just wondered if it’s obvious that I was raised without parents. Am I rude?”
It was the kind of thing she could only ask Joo Hyuk. At her question, he frowned deeply.
“What kind of guy would say something like that to you?”
“No… Nobody would say that outright. If someone did, I wouldn’t have trusted them enough to even consider their words.”
“No, you’re not ill-mannered at all. You’re polite, you know how to maintain boundaries, and as long as you’re not causing trouble for others, who’d ever say that about you?”
Ra In nodded absently, her eyes vacant.
Seeing Ra In so dispirited, Joo Hyuk grew worried about what exactly she’d been up to lately. She surely wasn’t hopping from one law firm to another…
“I didn’t realize it much while I was at the prosecution, but I guess I’m kind of reserved in conversations.”
At Ra In’s dejected admission, Joo Hyuk gave her a look of disbelief.
“Out of the blue? Who in our organization isn’t reserved in conversations?”
He fully sided with her.
“What have you really been doing these days? Where are you hearing this kind of nonsense?”
Ra In didn’t answer—she just lifted her beer can.
“Seriously, are you not going to tell me? Are you trying to hurt my feelings?”
“Sunbae, I’m just taking some time to reflect on myself while preparing for my reinstatement lawsuit. Please don’t worry too much.”
Joo Hyuk decided not to press further or question her anymore. He simply chose to believe her words as they were. After a brief session of chicken and beer, he headed back home.
Ra In quickly washed up, changed clothes again, and headed to the office. She couldn’t sleep anyway, her mind still preoccupied with unfinished tasks.
Upon arriving at the office, Ra In pulled up the web file Attorney Cha Hae In had shared onto her monitor. The documents were filled with evidence revealing Taesung Legal Department’s underhanded tactics, and she couldn’t help but frown.
Then, among them, a photo of Song Kang caught her eye—it was from his military days. Tall and strikingly handsome, he’d served in the honor guard and completed his full term before discharge. For a chaebol heir, such a background was rare.
The photo conveyed that his pursuit of etiquette and upright living wasn’t just empty words—he actually lived that way. His example of integrity kept pricking her conscience.
It was already past 3 a.m., and her eyelids were growing heavier. By the time it neared 4 a.m., she finally dozed off, slumped over her desk.
Outside the window, dawn was breaking, and cars began carving new paths through the city streets. At that moment, the sound of someone entering a password came through, and Song Kang walked into the office.
Not noticing Ra In asleep behind a mountain of documents, Song Kang strode straight toward the window. Only when he reached the side of her desk did he spot her and pause mid-step.
He’d clearly dropped her off at her place yesterday—why was she sleeping here? Just as he moved closer, she let out a soft cough.
Song Kang glanced at the indoor environmental monitoring system. The air was dry, and the temperature low—understandable, since none of the devices—air purifier, heater, or humidifier—had been turned on.
He activated the AI system to adjust everything, then quietly removed his coat and gently draped it over Ra In’s shoulders.
His gaze fell upon the documents spread across her desk and then shifted to the monitor. Seeing his military photo displayed there, his face flushed hot with embarrassment. He was furious—what exactly were they doing in the legal department?
The warmth from his coat reached Ra In, and she slowly woke up. As she looked around groggily, she spotted Song Kang staring at the monitor.
“Na Song…”
Still half-asleep, Ra In nearly spoke without thinking, but quickly caught herself. Her eyes followed his gaze to the screen.
“Oh!”
She hurriedly moved the mouse and closed the photo, then looked back at him.
“This came from Taesung’s prepared materials. You know that, right?”
Trending
“So this is your taste?”
“What are you talking about right now…!”
“My uniform?”
Her flustered reaction was more than enough to raise suspicion.
“I respect it.”
Ra In hung her head low and let out a sigh. She hadn’t expected him to show up at the office at this hour. More importantly, she hadn’t even realized she’d left his photo open on the screen while reviewing the files.
“What brings you here at this hour?”
“This is my office too, after all. By the way, Prosecutor Jin Ra In—did you really stay here all night?”
“Well… I guess it turned out that way.”
As Ra In finished speaking, a cough escaped her lips, and Song Kang felt a pang of concern.
“It’ll warm up soon. Didn’t you know how to turn on the heater?”
“It was too much trouble. Besides, I was wearing thick clothes.”
Song Kang carefully studied her face. Her lips, usually pink like flower petals, now had a bluish tinge—likely from the cold.
“Let me see your hand.”
At his request, Ra In gave him a wary look.
“I won’t bite. Just give me your hand.”
Reluctantly, she extended her hand, and Song Kang took her slender, tiny palm in his. True to his suspicion, it was ice-cold.
“Let’s go.”
“Where to?”
“While we wait for the office to warm up, let’s go down to the first-floor brunch café and have some warm soup.”
He gently tightened his grip, and once Ra In stood up, he let go. Still wrapped in his coat, she followed him out.
Though it was early, the brunch café was already open, and fresh bread was baking. The warm aroma and cozy atmosphere enveloped them both.
“Good thing it’s warmer in here.”
Ra In nodded in agreement.
“What would you like to eat?”
“Just warm water for me.”
Song Kang’s head filled with question marks at her order. Was that her way of telling him to order for her?
He picked a few simple, breakfast-friendly breads, ordered a creamy soup, a salad, and warm water, then sat down with her at a suitable table.
Soon the food arrived, and Ra In reached only for the warm water.
“Aren’t you eating?”
“I am eating.”
She was indeed—clutching the mug tightly, warming her hands and sipping the hot water.
“If your stomach’s not up for food this early, at least try some warm soup.”
“I can’t have that soup.”
He couldn’t force her if she truly couldn’t eat it.
“Is there really nothing here you’d like to try?”
Ra In carefully examined the dishes Song Kang had ordered, then picked up the tongs and placed a piece of sliced olive ciabatta on her plate. She grabbed a fork, picked out only the black olives, and chewed them thoughtfully.
For a moment, Song Kang was speechless. He’d brought her here for a proper warm breakfast, but if all she wanted was hot water, she could’ve had that back at the office.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing. I respect it. It’s your preference.”
Ra In stopped chewing and stared at him with a blank expression.
“About that photo earlier… Sigh… Think whatever you want.”
She reached for her mug again, warming her hands against its heat.
“Self-care is also a skill. Take better care of your health.”
Ra In, who’d been tuning out his words, suddenly turned her head away as another cough threatened to escape. She definitely had a cold.
Song Kang frowned. He had plenty of nagging remarks on the tip of his tongue but forced them down.
“No matter how busy you are, go to the hospital when you get back.”
Would he ever hear a simple “Yes” from her when it mattered? He stared at her face. She didn’t seem like she’d go—and probably wouldn’t even try.
In the end, Song Kang took Ra In to a nearby clinic. She coughed the entire way there, and his mood grew increasingly uneasy.
Sitting in front of the doctor, Ra In wore a blank, disinterested expression, as if she didn’t care about the consultation. Her dry coughs continued without pause. Song Kang stood beside her, arms folded.

“What seems to be bothering you?”
“A cold.”
That alone didn’t give enough information about her symptoms.
“She stayed in a cold place all day yesterday and likely caught a cold. Her lips even turned blue earlier from low body temperature. She’s been coughing nonstop.”
Unable to stand it any longer, Song Kang answered on her behalf.
The doctor took out his stethoscope and moved closer to Ra In.
“Could you please unbutton a few buttons on your blouse?”
With a detached expression, Ra In undid a couple of buttons, and Song Kang promptly averted his gaze to the ceiling.
“The sounds aren’t too bad, but it’s best to treat it early. I’ll prescribe both medicine and a shot.”
“I don’t want a shot. Just the medicine, please.”
She fastened her buttons back as she spoke.
“If it’s necessary, please give her both the shot and the medicine.”
Song Kang chimed in from the side. Ra In shot him a sharp glare.
“Under medical law, you’re not even within the legal definition of a guardian—!”
She tried to fire back with legal jargon but was cut off by another coughing fit. In a way, it was probably for the best that she hadn’t finished her sentence.
It had been a mistake to let him follow her into the exam room in the first place. Bringing up medical law now, just because she hated shots, seemed particularly pitiful.
The doctor, caught between the two, adjusted his glasses uncertainly.
“To prevent worsening and ensure a quick recovery, I’d really recommend the shot.”
Following the doctor’s judgment, both the shot and medicine were prescribed. Ra In gave a stiff bow and walked out of the exam room with a blank face.
She entered the injection room, and Song Kang waited outside. She’d gone in looking like she’d make a fuss, but walked out calmly without even a single “Ah!”
If she was going to take it fine anyway, why put up such a stubborn front?
“If you’re not feeling well, go home early and rest. You’re tired enough from pulling an all-nighter.”
“If I rest whenever I want to and stop whenever I feel sick, when will I ever get work done?”
As a CEO, he should’ve been pleased—but somehow, her answer didn’t sit right with him.
Song Kang only began his official workday after watching Ra In receive her prescription and head back upstairs to the office.
His one-hour late arrival caused a backlog in approvals, clogging the workflow like downtown traffic jams. He wondered just how much he’d set aside to spend that time with her…
And yet, he found himself questioning where this urge to care for her had even come from.
Male lead is a Divorced Husband
She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.
After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.
She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.
But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…
Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!
――
This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!
The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.
That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”
Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”
The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”
That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”
Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”
The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.
Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.
“She was originally a ‘she’!”
At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.
The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
