Yoon came home dragging her exhausted body, and the moment she saw Ok Soon and Ho Sik, her eyes welled up.

Seeing their wrinkled faces made her heart ache—her only granddaughter’s engagement ceremony, and they hadn’t even been able to attend.

“The engagement went well, right? Did they do your makeup there? You’re completely unrecognizable now. Our granddaughter really looks like Miss Korea.”

Ok Soon forced an even brighter smile as she warmly welcomed her.

“But why are you crying?”

Ok Soon’s wrinkled, rough hand gently stroked Yoon’s cheek. Ho Sik just stood there, clearing his throat awkwardly.

“You and Grandpa should’ve come to the engagement ceremony…”

Yoon lowered her head. It was utterly infuriating that her real family couldn’t even attend her own engagement.

“If we’d shown up there, it would’ve only dragged down your dignity for no reason.”

Ok Soon muttered, looking down at the floor.

“What are you talking about? How could it drag down my dignity?”

Yoon held Ok Soon’s hand, her voice filled with distress.

“Don’t even mention us. And don’t tell your fiancé about us for now, either.”

Ok Soon wiped Yoon’s tears away with her sleeve.

“Your fiancé is that actor, Cha Kang Hyun, right?”

Ho Sik, who had been standing with his hands clasped behind his back and staring out the window, finally spoke.

“Yes.”

“But people are saying Cha Kang Hyun’s a womanizer. They say he’s got a nasty temper, too.”

Ho Sik had asked around about Cha Kang Hyun and, after hearing all those rumors, only grew more worried.

“Lots of those rumors are nonsense.”

“If he’s that good-looking, doesn’t that just mean he’s got more trouble with women?”

Ho Sik’s face was filled entirely with worry—and then he slapped his chest again in frustration.

“Ugh…”

Because of his own foolishness falling for a scam, it felt like his innocent granddaughter’s fate was getting tangled up yet again. Ho Sik’s chest tightened with guilt.

No matter how he thought about it, those people weren’t the type who’d ever send Yoon off to a good life.

“If only I hadn’t gotten scammed…”

Ho Sik muttered another self-reproach and walked into his room. Yoon watched his retreating back with deep concern.

“I wonder if that man’s going to make himself sick like this. But seriously, what’s that guy really like? He’d better treat you well.”

“I’ll try to get along fine. Don’t worry too much.”

“Right. No one anywhere could dislike our Yoon. Everyone in this neighborhood praises you—kind, pretty, not a single flaw. Even if you don’t feel close now, he’ll surely cherish you deeply later on.”

“Hmm… Yeah.”

Yoon just mumbled vaguely in response to Ok Soon’s words. The idea of Kang Hyun ever cherishing her was utterly unimaginable.

“Oh, by the way, Grandmother, here.”

Yoon pulled a ring box out of her bag.

“Oh my! Is this your engagement ring? It looks incredibly expensive just by looking at it!”

“It seems expensive.”

It was the very two-carat diamond ring that Yoo Jin had mocked her with.

“Oh dear, where should I keep this?”

Ok Soon wrapped the ring box in a cloth and opened the refrigerator door.

“I doubt anyone would break into our house, but I still feel uneasy. I’ll put it here. Who’d ever think there’s a ring in the fridge?”

“Yeah, that makes sense.”

Yoon and Ok Soon looked at each other and smiled brightly.

“But have you eaten yet?”

“I ate something, but I’m still hungry.”

“Alright, go wash up quickly. I’ll boil your favorite cheonggukjang for you.”

“That sounds delicious. I’ll wash up and come right out.”

Yoon gave Ok Soon a bright smile and headed into the bathroom. Watching Yoon’s back, Ok Soon’s eyes reddened again, and she quietly wiped away a tear.

To the elderly couple, Yoon was their joyful, beautiful granddaughter—but to Yoon, they were nothing but a burden.

Yoon was truly an admirable child. They’d never been able to properly send her to a cram school, yet she studied diligently on her own, earned a scholarship in college, and even worked part-time jobs without ever asking them for money.

Moreover, despite having humble grandparents, Yoon never once felt ashamed of them.

She’d even bring food to Ok Soon’s workplace or help out, making Ok Soon’s coworkers envious.

“Better than ten sons—you don’t often see such a kind-hearted granddaughter!”

In short, she was the kind of child you couldn’t possibly love enough.

“Buddha, please let our kind Yoon be happy.”

⋆⋆⋆

Lately, Yoon had been suffering from nightmares, causing sleepless nights and severe headaches. She’d skipped lunch and now lay with her forehead pressed against her desk in the faculty office.

“Teacher.”

She looked up to see Lee Min Jung, class president of Grade 2, Class 1.

“Oh, Min Jung. What is it?”

“It’s… about the last Korean evaluation. I just don’t understand why I got a B.”

Min Jung hadn’t slept for days after receiving a B on the critique she’d stayed up nights writing. She was certain she’d met all the requirements, so she couldn’t figure out where she’d lost points.

“The structure of your essay didn’t meet the scoring criteria…”

“But I believe I fulfilled all the requirements.”

Min Jung cut Yoon off mid-sentence.

“The conclusion didn’t properly address the issue raised in the introduction. And also…”

“Isn’t ‘properly addressing’ way too subjective?”

As Min Jung kept rudely interrupting, Yoon started to feel her temper rising.

“That’s exactly why it has to meet the objective criteria we set.”

“Isn’t that just playing word games? I can’t accept it. I couldn’t even properly study for my other subjects because I was so focused on that assignment.”

“Min Jung, a critique means…”

“Ugh, fine.”

Suddenly, Min Jung cut Yoon off again and spun around to leave.

“Lee Min Jung!”

When Yoon called out, Min Jung bolted out of the faculty office as if running away.

As a brand-new teacher who’d just started teaching students, Yoon was getting her real initiation after handing out the evaluation scores.

She knew high schoolers were inevitably sensitive about performance assessments—but she still felt flustered when students questioned her so directly.

“This is tough.”

Yoon closed her eyes again, resting her forehead on the desk. The cool sensation seemed to slightly ease her headache. Suddenly, she wondered if becoming a teacher had really been the right choice.

It had been her grandmother’s wish for her to become a teacher, and Yoon herself had wanted a stable job—

so she could support her grandfather, who was nearing mandatory retirement as an apartment security guard, and her grandmother, who still went out to clean buildings despite her poor health.

But teaching was far from easy—it demanded a sense of mission beyond just a job.

It wasn’t limited to teaching her subject; she had to guide students onto the right path.

Yet, she doubted whether she could truly fulfill that role. How could she lead others when she herself didn’t even know which way to go?

Besides, she was only a temporary teacher, still not fully accepted by her students.

Suddenly, she remembered signing that contract with Kang Hyun not long ago.

“I’m someone whose job and marriage both come with expiration dates.”

Her mind was tangled with all sorts of thoughts.

“It’s okay. It’ll get better.”

But as always, Yoon gently comforted herself.

⋆⋆⋆

Kang Hyun was reviewing production budget documents when, out of nowhere, he remembered Yoon sniffing his arm that day.

At the time, he’d just stared in disbelief—apparently, that perfume held some wistful memory for her.

“Seo Yoon.”

She’d seemed shamelessly bold enough to demand a building, yet just looking at her face made that utterly unimaginable. He recalled her walking down alone, step by step.

“She looks pitiful.”

For some reason, she weighed on his mind.

“Pitiful my ass.”

Despite repeatedly learning not to judge people by appearances, here he was, getting fooled again.

“Get a grip.”

Kang Hyun pulled himself together. If he gave her even the slightest opening, she’d cling to false hope, waiting for a chance he’d never give.

“Hah, so I’m getting married.”

He’d never once seriously considered marriage before—especially not after thinking about his own parents.

It seemed inevitable he’d end up walking a path similar to theirs. And if that happened, his own children would inherit a dreadful family life.

“It’s not like it matters—we’ll divorce in three years anyway. I’ll just hand her some alimony then.”

Kang Hyun returned his attention to the documents. Since he’d joined the drama, sponsors and product placements had been pouring in, and the streaming platform had already been finalized.

If this drama succeeded too, JM Productions would officially become the nation’s top production company.

Ding-dong!

It was Woo Jin and Cheol Young.

“I’ll drop my luggage in the room first.”

Cheol Young dragged his suitcase into the room next to the front door. Whenever Kang Hyun worked on a project, Cheol Young stayed at his place.

“The casting got delayed, so the schedule’s really tight. If we don’t stick to the planned timeline, it’ll mess up all our other plans. I’m worried.”

Kang Hyun, checking the filming schedule, pointed at the overseas shoot dates.

“We should move up the Bali shoot.”

“But the Bali scenes are for the drama’s finale anyway. Can’t we just film through the mid-to-late episodes and go later?”

“My wedding’s in a month, so I’ll have to take that so-called honeymoon trip anyway. We can just go to Bali for our honeymoon and shoot there—kill two birds with one stone.”

“What? You’re going to film during your honeymoon?”

Cheol Young, just coming back after dropping his bags, asked in surprise.

“No matter how you look at it, that’s a bit…”

Woo Jin even waved his hands in protest.

“Figure out the schedule.”

At Kang Hyun’s firm words, Woo Jin and Cheol Young exchanged glances and shook their heads. Judging by the situation, it seemed like an arranged marriage—but regardless, it would deeply hurt the other party.

Woo Jin and Cheol Young genuinely felt sorry for Kang Hyun’s fiancée, whose face they’d never even seen.

“By the way, the director said there aren’t enough affectionate scenes and wants more added. What do you think, CEO?”

Woo Jin carefully gauged Kang Hyun’s reaction as he asked.

“Does that guy even know what genre this is?”

Predictably, Kang Hyun scowled.

“I guess he thinks adding a few early romantic scenes would help attract viewers?”

Cheol Young chimed in supportively.

“Even if it has romance, it’s fundamentally a noir. If we add that stuff, it’ll end up being neither here nor there. The script is solid—we don’t need cheap tricks. It’ll just muddy the show’s tone. I’ll talk to the director myself.”

At Kang Hyun’s resolute expression, Woo Jin and Cheol Young fell silent.

“Filming starts next week, so it’s going to be crazy. I stopped by the Jinseong set earlier—looked almost finished. Casting’s all wrapped up too, so now we just need to shoot. Oh, and Chae So Yi’s agency called—they said they’re okay with their screen time.”

When Kang Hyun had firmly insisted he could easily replace Chae So Yi, her agency quietly backed down.

Even though Chae So Yi was currently popular, they’d clearly calculated that pulling out of this highly anticipated second-half drama would cause more losses than gains.

Kang Hyun had drawn an even firmer line, knowing that if he gave in to Chae So Yi’s demands, other actors might start stirring too.

He wasn’t just the lead actor in this drama—he was also the production company’s CEO. That’s why he was more personally invested in it than ever before.

“Why does the production budget keep ballooning like this? If this flops, we’re doomed.”

“It absolutely won’t flop. It’s a great project—that’s why sponsors are lining up. They’re all professionals; they know it’s going to be a hit.”

Woo Jin grinned broadly.

“It’s not a hit yet. We have to stay careful about everything.”

“Right. We should tap the stone before crossing the bridge. Anyway, the script’s perfect, the cast is stellar—it’s already exciting just thinking about filming.”

Kang Hyun didn’t respond to Woo Jin’s comments, simply checking the schedule. Then, a sudden thought brought a smile to his lips.

“Seo Yoon, let’s wrap this up in one go.”

Satisfied that he could combine his honeymoon and overseas filming into one trip, Kang Hyun smiled brightly for the first time in a while.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
