My Husband's Scandal (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 16
Yoon stood in front of the mirror wearing a hanbok. The muted pastel ivory jeogori and pale apricot-pink chima gave off an elegant impression.
Above her chest, the neat, modest collar ribbons were delicately arranged.
“Madam, you look stunning.”
On top of that, Kyeong Hwa had styled her hair and makeup so flawlessly—like a true professional—that she could step straight into a hanbok photoshoot without a single touch-up.
“It looks like it was done at a salon.”
When Yoon exclaimed in admiration, Kyeong Hwa beamed with a wide smile.
“I’m pretty good, aren’t I?”
Kyeong Hwa shrugged her shoulders playfully.
“It’s not just ‘pretty good’—you’re amazing.”
Yoon’s hair was styled in an elegant updo, accented with subtle accessories that added polish, while the light makeup highlighted her clear, translucent skin, creating an aristocratic aura.
To top it off, Kyeong Hwa hurriedly brought in a flower-embellished clutch with cubic zirconia, making the look absolutely perfect.
“What are you doing in there? Come out already!”
Just then, Kang Hyun’s voice rang out from right outside her room.
“Yes, I’m coming.”
Yoon gently lifted the hem of her chima to avoid stepping on it as it trailed all the way down to her socks. Opening the door, she found Kang Hyun standing right in front of her, dressed casually in cotton pants and a shirt.
“It’s hot out—why go through all this trouble with a hanbok?”
Despite his words, Kang Hyun couldn’t take his eyes off Yoon in her hanbok. She truly looked like the picture of a refined young lady from a distinguished family.
“Mrs. Kim told me to wear a hanbok when paying respects to your father.”
“Mrs. Kim? My future mother-in-law?”
“Oh… yes.”
Kang Hyun suddenly recalled how Seo Jung had glared at Yoon on their engagement day.
‘Well, I guess as an illegitimate child, she wouldn’t look pleasing to Seo Jung. But still—did she really need to stare so coldly?’
Remembering Seo Jung’s icy gaze fixed on Yoon, Kang Hyun frowned and reached out his hand.
“Take it.”
“I’m fine. I can go down by myself.”
Glancing quickly at Kyeong Hwa, Yoon shyly tucked her hands behind her back.
“I’ll go ahead with Director Kwak, then. I’ll come back later with the outfit.”
Kyeong Hwa quickly slipped downstairs, sensing the awkwardness.
“Our Teacher Seo falls at least once a day, right? And today, you’re even wearing a hanbok—so you’re definitely going to trip. If you tumble down these stairs, it’ll be a major accident. Don’t end up crying and whining because something breaks—just hold on.”
Hearing Kang Hyun’s words, Yoon glanced down at the stairs, hesitated for a moment, then took his large hand. Kang Hyun gently wrapped his fingers around her small ones.
For an instant, her hand felt so soft and moist that Kang Hyun felt a slight tickle.
‘Why does everything about her feel so childlike?’
Kang Hyun held her hand firmly as they slowly descended the stairs. Watching Yoon carefully step down—one hand holding her chima, the other clutching his—he thought she looked truly graceful.
In truth, just moments earlier, seeing Yoon in her hanbok—like a living doll—had left him utterly speechless.
Her fair, clean face paired perfectly with her neatly pinned-up hair. Perhaps because of the hanbok, even her movements seemed unusually poised.
Light and delicate—elegant and refined.
Beside him, the hanbok rustled softly like dragonfly wings—“sak-sak.” At that moment, his heart seemed to go “basasak.”
He’d certainly seen other women in hanboks before, but for some reason, Yoon’s image today was imprinting itself deeply in his mind.
On top of that, Yoon was even wearing dainty embroidered shoes.
“You wore rubber shoes too?”
Though he grumbled, he briefly entertained the absurd thought of sitting her on his lap and slipping those shoes onto her feet himself.
The two stepped into the elevator. Kang Hyun couldn’t tear his eyes away from Yoon’s reflection in the mirror.
‘She looks just like a peach.’
Her slightly flushed cheeks looked incredibly tempting. But when he compared her radiant reflection to his own sloppy appearance, he suddenly felt like her lowly servant.
“Why didn’t you wear a hanbok?”
The refined young lady from a noble family looked up gently at her servant and asked politely.
“Do I really need to wear one just to go to my own house?”
Kang Hyun deliberately answered more gruffly than necessary.
“Oh… okay.”
Seeing Yoon in her hanbok look like a shy new bride made Kang Hyun’s heart flutter restlessly.

Soon after, their car arrived at Chairman Cha’s grand Hanam-dong residence, headquarters of Woosung Construction.
It was even more opulent than Congressman Seo’s home in Seongbuk-dong. One had to pass through seemingly endless walls before the majestic gate finally came into view.
Moreover, a vast garden stretched out—endless stretches of lawn and stately pine trees scattered throughout—requiring a long walk just to reach the front door.
“Tired?”
Seeing Yoon carefully lifting her chima as she walked, Kang Hyun couldn’t help but worry.
“No.”
Thinking he might be asking because she was walking too slowly, Yoon quickened her pace. The heat had flushed her cheeks, and beads of sweat on her forehead sparkled in the sunlight.
“Why is everything about you so tiny?”
He asked, looking at her embroidered shoes, which appeared barely half the size of his own.
“I’m not that small.”
“In this sweltering heat, you even wore rubber shoes?”
Kang Hyun grumbled under his breath.
‘As if anyone’s going to welcome you warmly just because you dressed up like this.’
Still, he couldn’t help but worry she might trip over her chima again, so he matched her walking pace carefully.
“Sister-in-law, welcome!”
Yoo Hyun greeted them warmly at the front entrance.
“Hello.”
Yoon also greeted Yoo Hyun cheerfully. Although they’d seen each other at both the engagement and wedding, things had been so hectic that they’d only exchanged brief greetings—making Yoo Hyun feel almost like a stranger.
Unlike Kang Hyun’s tall, sturdy build, Yoo Hyun was small and slender. If Kang Hyun radiated strength and intensity, Yoo Hyun resembled a dignified clergyman—completely unlike his brother.
‘Like an angel and a devil…’
As this thought suddenly crossed her mind, Yoon quietly smiled. Kang Hyun noticed and stared down at her, then whispered softly into her ear.
“Still regretting not becoming Madam of Woosung Construction now that you’ve seen my older brother?”
Annoyed, Kang Hyun wondered if Yoon regretted not marrying Yoo Hyun instead.
“What are you talking about?”
Yoon shot him a quick, confused glance. Kang Hyun responded with a mocking smirk and walked inside ahead of her.
Yoon soon followed, neatly placing her pretty embroidered shoes beside his rough ones before stepping into the house.
“This way, please.”
Guided by Yoo Hyun, they entered the living room, where Chairman Cha sat solemnly on the sofa. Nervous, Yoon slowly approached him.
“You’re here?”
“Yes. How have you been, Father?”
Yoon felt she should bow, but she wasn’t sure where to do it, so she just watched him cautiously.
“Father, should I—”
“Never mind.”
Chairman Cha coldly cut her off and walked straight into the dining room. Kang Hyun, glaring after him, followed right behind.
Yoo Hyun approached Yoon, who stood dumbfounded watching the two men leave, and apologized on their behalf.
“He’s just like this when it’s hot out—he doesn’t mean to make things hard for you, Sister-in-law. So let’s skip the bowing and just start eating.”
“Okay.”
Embarrassed, Yoon followed Yoo Hyun into the dining room with a stiff expression.
The dining room held a massive table big enough for over twenty people, already fully set with dishes.
At the table sat Chairman Cha, Kang Hyun, and Yoo Hyun’s son, Seok Jun.
“Say hello to your aunt.”
Yoo Hyun looked at his son Seok Jun as he spoke. Seok Jun merely nodded his head, prompting Yoo Hyun to sigh softly.
It seemed his son, neglected due to Yoo Hyun’s busy schedule, had developed emotional issues—despite being only eleven, he’d built a firm wall between himself and others.
Soon, Chairman Cha picked up his spoon, and everyone began eating in complete silence. The only sounds in the room were the gentle clinks of utensils against dishes.
“My in-laws sent over some food.”
Breaking the silence, Yoo Hyun smiled warmly at Yoon. He felt sorry for her—she looked utterly discouraged, probably still shaken from Chairman Cha’s earlier slight.
“Oh… thank you.”
“Take your time. Don’t force yourself to finish everything.”
“Yes, thank you.”
Grateful for Yoo Hyun’s consideration, Yoon bowed slightly.

“You’re a contract teacher?”
Chairman Cha suddenly spoke up.
“Yes.”
Yoon looked up at him, but quickly lowered her eyes again under his sharp gaze.
“Tsk.”
Chairman Cha clicked his tongue. She was a daughter-in-law he’d accepted out of obligation, not someone who’d ever satisfy him.
In truth, Woosung Construction owned a private education foundation and could easily place Yoon at one of their schools—but he’d decided to leave her as she was.
‘Thankfully, Kang Hyun doesn’t seem serious about spending his life with someone like her.’
He’d been relieved to hear that Kang Hyun had even brought a lawyer before the wedding to draft a divorce agreement.
“Your drama premieres at the end of October?”
Yoo Hyun spoke up then, gazing fondly at his proud younger brother.
“Yes.”
“If it tops the global charts again like your last drama, your production company will truly become world-class.”
Kang Hyun’s previous drama had ranked number one worldwide for an entire week earlier this year in the platform TV show category. Thanks to that, JM Production had now entered the global elite tier.
“But ruin can come in an instant! It’s time you wrapped things up and joined the company!”
Chairman Cha suddenly interrupted the brothers’ conversation, shouting abruptly. Startled, Yoon dropped her spoon.
A housekeeper quickly brought her another utensil, but Yoon’s face flushed crimson with embarrassment.
“You’re not holding rites to curse my company into bankruptcy, are you?”
Kang Hyun coldly snapped back, sliding a water glass toward the startled Yoon.
‘That impudent brat… sigh!’
Chairman Cha sighed inwardly. Kang Hyun had inherited his entrepreneurial spirit—no matter how much he denied it, that nature couldn’t be changed.
“Enough of these childish games! Help your older brother—he can’t manage alone!”
“Hyung is doing perfectly fine. What exactly does he need help with? He even secured that massive Saudi contract last year—aren’t you satisfied yet?”
“What’s so impressive about that?”
“The company’s stock hit its daily trading limit thanks to that deal, yet you still call it ‘nothing’? Your greed is unbelievable.”
“What? Have you ever seen such a brat? Tsk!”
Chairman Cha clicked his tongue in frustration.
‘Who on earth did he inherit that crude attitude from?’
Yet Chairman Cha still couldn’t let go of Kang Hyun. His third son, Hyun Seung, was certainly bright—but compared to Kang Hyun, he fell short.
In his heart, only Kang Hyun was worthy of inheriting Woosung Construction—the company he’d built with his life’s work.
“Hyun Seung has already joined the company and is working hard to learn. He’s smart—he’ll soon prove his worth.”
Chairman Cha abruptly brought up Hyun Seung, hoping to use him as leverage to lure Kang Hyun back.
Kang Hyun set down his chopsticks, stared coldly at his father, and gave a icy smile.
“First of all, congratulations on your clever illegitimate son. But let me tell you—you need to look at that bastard more objectively. If you don’t want your life’s work destroyed along with your family, that is.”
“What! You little—!”
Chairman Cha’s face instantly flushed red with rage, prompting Yoo Hyun to quickly interject.
“Kang Hyun, how dare you speak to your father like that? Apologize right now.”
At Yoo Hyun’s meaningful glance, Kang Hyun reluctantly spoke.
“I’m sorry.”
But his tone carried no remorse whatsoever.
After barely surviving the tense meal in Hanam-dong, Yoon got back into Kang Hyun’s car.
“How’s it feel being a chaebol daughter-in-law? Don’t expect anyone to welcome you warmly.”
“I never expected anything.”
Yoon murmured, gazing out the window. She’d already experienced this once before—back when she was twelve, standing outside Congressman Seo’s gate, brimming with dreams.
But those dreams shattered the moment she stepped through that palace-like gate. What awaited her was hell. Nothing in life came freely—there was always a price to pay.
“Father is a fearsome man. Don’t hope for anything from him. Don’t expect anything.”
“Yes.”
Yoon replied calmly. Watching her composed expression, Kang Hyun suddenly remembered Chairman Cha’s scornful gaze toward her.
Of course, he himself hadn’t shown her much respect—but seeing someone else treat her so poorly made him furious.
He recalled how, when his brother Yoo Hyun got married and paid respects like this, relatives had gathered warmly to greet them.

He hadn’t thought much of it on the way over, but now, comparing today’s cold reception to that joyful day, he felt deeply unsettled.
Seeing Yoon shrink in her seat, silently counting grains of rice all through the meal, irritated him—so much so that he’d nearly shouted he’d sleep over just to spite Chairman Cha’s obvious eagerness to send them off.
But when he saw Yoon panic at that, he immediately took her and left as soon as the meal ended. After all, Kang Hyun had an early shoot scheduled for the next day.
In any case, she’d worn such a beautifully prepared hanbok—only to be denied even a simple bow and sent off with nothing but coldness.
‘Couldn’t he have at least accepted her bow?’
Remembering Chairman Cha’s chilly treatment of Yoon, Kang Hyun clenched his jaw.
Sak-sak—
Just then, Yoon shifted uncomfortably in her hanbok. Watching her fidget, Kang Hyun’s heart began fluttering again.
