“Ugh…”

Hae Yeon groaned on Sunday morning as she dragged her sluggish body out of bed—clearly the picture of someone who’d had one too many drinks the night before. Fortunately, Do Ha had already gone out for his morning workout, sparing her the embarrassment of being seen in such a disheveled state.

Rubbing her eyes, Hae Yeon headed to the kitchen. After drinking a glass of cold water and splashing her face, she felt instantly more alert. Changing out of her pajamas and stepping into the living room, she noticed the quiet stillness in Do Ha’s absence and briefly considered doing a thorough deep clean for the first time in a while.

Though the house remained spotless thanks to the housekeeper Do Ha had hired for her, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy about completely neglecting the home she’d personally cared for and cleaned with her own hands for four long years.

“Since Mr. Do Ha’s not here, I might as well make use of the time and get started.”

She definitely couldn’t pass up the chance for a proper deep clean. Hae Yeon decided she’d focus on areas she normally never touched—after all, the frequently used spaces and visible areas were already impeccably tidy thanks to the housekeeper.

Moving from room to room like she was on a treasure hunt, she bustled about the house. Truth be told, her sudden urge to deep-clean also stemmed from a need to calm her tangled thoughts—she’d laughed and chatted over drinks with Joo Ah the previous evening, yet her heart hadn’t felt at ease even for a moment.

After returning home, she’d quietly sobbed in sadness without Do Ha noticing, eventually drifting off to sleep—and perhaps the physical exhaustion had unexpectedly cleared her mind.

Her instinct proved correct. With her mind emptied and her body kept busy, she simply had no room left for other thoughts.

“First floor’s done—time to tackle the second?”

Having thoroughly cleaned the downstairs, Hae Yeon climbed the staircase to the second floor. She cleaned the upstairs living area and each guest room in turn.

“Oh, should I clean that room too?”

Once she’d finished systematically cleaning every space, one room suddenly came to mind. She walked down the hallway to the very last door on the second floor. That room, tucked away in the farthest corner, normally served as a storage space.

Given the house’s size, there were multiple storage rooms, but this one held items rarely used—so much so that it was often skipped even during deep-cleaning sessions, making Hae Yeon feel oddly curious as she approached it now.

“Huh? The curtains are drawn?”
