At first, Hae Yeon sat there dazed, unable to accept this situation at all.

Even without fully unfolding the hem of his clothing—lest he wake—she could guess the presence of a large scar. The moment she saw his body, the word “shattered” flashed through her mind.

She couldn’t move an inch. It felt as if someone had poured plaster over every joint of her body, hardening her completely in place.

When a suppressed groan finally forced its way out between her fingers, Hae Yeon finally began to cry. She couldn’t even touch Do Ha’s skin, frozen in place for fear that the mere act of touching might cause him pain.

“Huh… ngh…”

Tears slid into her mouth, and she bit down hard—so hard it drew blood. If Do Ha found out like this, she felt she wouldn’t be able to bear it.

She had to button up Do Ha’s pajamas somehow, but her hands trembled violently. After several failed attempts, she finally managed to fasten them and carefully stepped down from the bed.

Hwuh! Her legs gave out, knees buckling. With great effort, Hae Yeon pulled herself upright and headed straight for the bathroom. The instant she locked the door, she turned on the faucet wildly and finally let out her sobs.

“Huuu… huuuk… huuk.”

Even her weeping came in fits and starts, and fearing the sound of water wouldn’t fully muffle it, she strained to hold her breath.

She couldn’t even imagine how much pain those marks must have caused. Just picturing the suffering Do Ha endured felt unbearable—her mind filled with chaotic denials.

Could it really have been me who inflicted those horrifying scars?

Just thinking this made her feel disgusted with herself, triggering a wave of nausea. Those wounds were barely a year old—still unhealed—and she couldn’t fathom how much they’d tormented him all this time.

Hae Yeon felt she was suffocating under the voice inside her. Ashamed even for having such thoughts, she collapsed onto the floor as if crumbling apart.

“Huh… I… I have to get up.”
