“Happy birthday, Seo Ha.”

That day was Seo Ha’s twentieth birthday—the day she truly became an adult.

Seung Oh, who’d been coming home late for months, claiming he was busy, didn’t show up until after ten at night even on Seo Ha’s birthday. His face was smudged with charcoal stains, and his hands were heavily wrapped in burn ointment and bandages.

Without even opening the large shopping bag Seung Oh handed her, Seo Ha, at a loss, grabbed his hand first.

“What happened to your hand? Are you hurt?”

“It’s nothing.”

Seung Oh awkwardly hid his hand behind his back and gave a faint smile.

“Just open this.”

Only then did she open the shopping bag and find a gift inside—a handbag far too expensive for Seung Oh, and a single delicate flower.

“What’s this? Something so expensive…”

“I’ve been working part-time at a barbecue restaurant. It’s your special birthday, after all.”

Working all night long, scrubbing hot grills and handling charcoal, he’d barely earn a few ten-thousand won. Yet he’d proudly saved every last penny from that job to buy even this small bag. Did you love me back then?

“Happy birthday, my princess.”

I loved you when you said those words. I loved the mingling breaths between us in that chilly night air. I loved our younger selves and the love we shared.

Seo Ha hid all her emotions behind an elegant rose-patterned teacup and addressed the woman sitting across from her.

“You’ve really polished up, Ms. Lee Ji Soo.”

An unforgettable twentieth birthday.

The day she’d been more upset about Seung Oh’s bandaged hands than the gift she received, the very bag she’d hugged and cried over alone in her room now sat neatly on Ji Soo’s lap.

“Appealing with that modest, thrifty image, yet you still wanted a designer bag after all?”

“Huh? This one, I…”

“I know. It’s from Lee Seung Oh.”

Ji Soo’s restless, wandering eyes suddenly sharpened. She must have thought, “It’s finally come.”

I was curious. Would she brazenly flip the script like a cliché mistress? Or would she break down sobbing and beg for forgiveness? Or perhaps choose the useless silence of denial?

“It wasn’t me who asked him to buy it.”

Ji Soo shook her head. Was she going to cry and beg for forgiveness after all?

“I know that too. Who in their right mind would be foolish enough to insist on buying an outdated seasonal bag already marked down in an outlet store long past its trend?”

“…”

She apparently hadn’t known such details. Though this wasn’t a pleasant outing by any means, seeing Ji Soo’s expression harden lifted my mood just a bit—only a tiny, tiny bit.

“You should’ve just asked him to buy it. If you’d studied a little, you could’ve gotten something far more valuable.”

“I don’t care about this sort of thing!”

Ji Soo suddenly lifted her chin and retorted with surprising composure.

“Of course someone like you, who rattles off ‘seasonal bag’ and such while dripping in designer labels, wouldn’t understand. But what really matters is one’s inner self. What good is a designer bag if the person carrying it isn’t one?”

“Pfft!”

I nearly spat out the black tea I was sipping. Seo Ha dabbed her lips with a napkin and repeated the words she’d just heard.

“So, the person themselves must be the ‘designer item’?”

“Yes. People who lack confidence in themselves dress up in expensive clothes and jewels, puffing up their pride. The truly designer person shines on their own—even without all that.”

In that moment, I finally understood what Mom once said—that not a single person who claims “a person must be the designer item” ever truly was one.

“Hahahaha!”

It was so absurd that an involuntary laugh burst out. Once it started, I couldn’t stop. Ji Soo frowned, clearly displeased by Seo Ha’s muffled giggling behind her napkin.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing—it’s just too hilarious. Pfft!”

Seo Ha giggled again and finally managed to sip some tea.

“Wouldn’t you laugh too, Ms. Lee Ji Soo? I mean, if you were in my shoes.”

She seemed not to understand even after that, so Seo Ha added an explanation.

“I’m Yoon Seo Ha. Now imagine a woman who knows nothing but how to make bindaetteok sitting right in front of me, saying, ‘A person must be the designer item.’ Isn’t that funny? Or not?”

“That’s exactly the flawed mindset—judging people by such shallow standards!”

Ji Soo snapped sharply, flaring up.

“Then shall we try evaluating you by another standard?”

Cold, cutting words poured from Seo Ha’s lips, her laughter not yet fully faded.

“Ms. Lee Ji Soo, you’re the other woman caught having an affair with someone else’s husband. Do you even know what ‘other woman’ means?”

Seo Ha enunciated each syllable clearly, spitting the words toward Ji Soo’s trembling eyes.

“A-dul-ter-er.”

“Hey!”

Apparently unwilling to hear herself called trash, Ji Soo gritted her teeth.

“Why do some people get angry when they hear the truth? Explain that to me, Ms. Adulterer.”

In a hotel café filled with classical music, the word “adulterer” sounded utterly out of place—which meant it drew attention all too easily.

Nearby patrons paused their conversations and turned to listen, and Ji Soo stiffened her neck even more.

“Isn’t Lee Seung Oh the one who’s done worse—ignoring his wife and turning his eyes elsewhere? You don’t have the guts to hold onto your husband, so you drag out an easy target like me for your tantrum. Get a grip. Instead of blaming others, blame yourself for being so unappealing your husband strayed.”

So she’d chosen the cliché route of flipping blame onto others. Though honestly, that line sounded straight out of “Love and Battlefield” or “Couples Club.” Did she attend some mistress seminar or something?

“How do you even know so much about my bag?”

“You must be obsessed with designer labels—typical of a rich girl with an empty head.”

Ji Soo spoke fluently, without stuttering, pouring out exactly what she wanted to say.

“So that’s what you think, Ms. Designer Adulterer.”

Ji Soo’s eyes narrowed sharply.

“That bag is mine. Lee Seung Oh gave it to me as a birthday present.”

Beneath the pine tree in the garden—where Yoon Seo Ha and I turned twenty together on my twentieth birthday.

“But he should’ve picked something more outdated. I accepted it, sure, but it looked so cheap I could barely bring myself to carry it—maybe wore it once out of politeness? It sat buried in my closet for years, nearly growing mold, before Lee Seung Oh stole it and gave it to you.”

My most treasured possession. The gift you bought me for my twentieth birthday after working all night.

“You think I’m lying just to upset you? There’s a lipstick stain in the inner pocket’s corner. You won’t find a warranty card or receipt—they were thrown away long ago.”

In truth, the warranty and receipt were carefully preserved in another box, nestled alongside dried, withered flower petals.

“Go ahead and flaunt it to your heart’s content. It seems that useless trash—gathering dust and mold in my home—has finally found its rightful owner.”

How could I possibly have brought it out myself? I treasured it so much I only ever took it out to gently stroke it, terrified it might wear or break. And now I hated myself for foolishly staining such a precious thing with makeup.

Ji Soo’s previously composed face suddenly turned bright red—like a tomato seconds from being tossed into a blender.

“So what if it is?”

“It just means your so-called charm boils down to this. You’re like a pet dog—given leftovers the wife discarded because your owner can’t afford to feed you properly with his own money.”

Ji Soo moved her lips as if to say something again, but Seo Ha ignored her and waved toward the entrance.

“Honey, over here!”

Clueless Seung Oh spotted Seo Ha and walked over. The panic that flooded his rather handsome face took less than a few seconds to set in.

“Ji… Soo?”

Awkwardly attaching an honorific that didn’t suit him, Seung Oh looked back and forth between the two women.

“Why are you two together? Was it a coincidence?”

“You know it wasn’t.”

He was sharp enough to grasp the entire situation from that one sentence.

Just as Seo Ha expected, the awkward smile vanished instantly from Seung Oh’s face.

“What are you doing?”

“You’re the one who should answer that.”

Seo Ha stared coldly at Seung Oh—her first love, her first man, the husband she’d believed in without a doubt.

“What are you doing, Lee Seung Oh?”

Seung Oh bit his pale lips. He looked more nervous than he had on their wedding day.

“Let’s go. We’ll find somewhere quiet and talk this through.”

“Let’s settle it right here.”

Seo Ha pulled a thick envelope from her handbag and slapped it onto the table.

“It’s divorce papers. I’ve already stamped mine—just stamp yours and leave it on the dining table.”

Her calm tone, composed expression, and the stamped divorce papers apparently shocked him deeply. Seung Oh blinked rapidly, eyes wide.

“What did you say?”

“Let’s get a divorce.”

Seo Ha deliberately emphasized the word “divorce.”

Now Seung Oh would cry and beg for forgiveness. He’d say I must be out of my mind, that this woman meant nothing to him, that he’d only been briefly tempted. He’d swear Yoon Seo Ha was the only woman he truly loved—and always would.

And after that, I planned to forgive him.

I knew it was foolish and frustrating—but that’s how the heart works. Yoon Seo Ha had loved the man Lee Seung Oh too long and too deeply to cut him away cleanly like a rotten radish.

“Divorce…”

Seung Oh murmured softly and read the documents.

“Assets remain under each party’s name. Lee Seung Oh shall pay Yoon Seo Ha one hundred million won in consolation money. Both parties agree to the above terms.”

“Take it, stamp it, pack your things, and leave it on the dining table.”

Seo Ha believed there’d be no negotiation. Seung Oh would break things off with Ji Soo right here and spend the rest of his life atoning to her.

“Fine.”

But what was Seung Oh saying now?

“I’ll need some time to arrange the consolation money. Let’s inform both families after the paperwork’s done. You wouldn’t want them interfering in something already settled, would you?”

If I hadn’t misheard, he wasn’t choosing forgiveness—he was choosing divorce.

“…Is that all?”

“Anything else you want to add? I don’t.”

“I mean, is that really all you have to say? Aren’t you going to say sorry or ask for forgiveness or something?”

She’d prepared and stamped the divorce papers herself, confident Seung Oh would never agree. Now that even that belief had crumbled, Seo Ha lost her earlier composure, her voice trembling.

“Of course I feel sorry toward you. But I won’t apologize.”

Right before Seo Ha’s eyes, Seung Oh shrugged and gently took Ji Soo’s hand.

“Seo Ha, please try to understand. If I apologized to you here, it’d mean my love for Ji Soo was wrong.”

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
