Serena returned to her quarters, not wanting to disturb Anna any further. Anna had already sorted through almost everything, including clothes, so there was hardly anything left for Serena to pack.

“I ended up just getting in the way by peeking out unnecessarily.”

Perhaps she should have tried to dissuade Lucas from holding the festival.

Though it would have been absolutely the right thing to do given the current situation, the mere thought of being able to witness a festival in Astel—where she didn’t even know when she’d return—had brought Serena such great comfort and joy that she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.

She doubted she’d meet Roger again anytime soon, and could only hope that Nas’s two brothers had found their proper places by now.

“Nas, and all those in similar circumstances, must find warm shelter before this winter storms in.”
