The moment he brought Cedric’s offered tea to his lips, he sharply sensed the stinging sensation on his tongue.

‘It’s laced with poison.’

No matter how resistant Cedric might be to poison, he was not perfectly immune. Cedric was hardly the sort of person who would willingly drink poison in daily life. Thus, it was impossible that Cedric had deliberately prepared poisoned tea for both of them himself.

If anything, it was more likely that either Cedric or someone else intended to kill him.

Cedric replied absentmindedly as he drank his own portion of tea. He seemed utterly uninterested in whether Walter actually drank from his cup or not.

Anyone who had poisoned the tea would surely have watched closely to see if Walter drank it; thus, judging by Cedric’s indifferent attitude, he could not be the culprit.

The remaining possibilities were obvious.

‘The Second Prince—or Empress Catarina.’

In truth, the two were practically one and the same, so it was as good as knowing exactly who the perpetrator was.

Most likely, they intended to murder Walter during his meeting with Cedric and somehow pin the blame entirely on him.

‘So that’s why they sent the Third Princess to me—to stir up that ridiculous scandal.’

It was already publicly known that Cedric and Walter were close, so they needed a plausible pretext to sow discord between them. He had anticipated this, yet the plot turned out even more predictable than expected.
