Married First, a Couple (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
Do Jun’s gaze as he looked at Tae Yeon seemed to hold back many unspoken thoughts.
His deep, calm eyes shimmered briefly before he let out a short sigh.
Then he released Tae Yeon’s wrist—the one still smiling faintly at him—and her expression appeared refreshingly innocent.
He had only ever seen her tense in front of him—was she truly a woman capable of smiling like this?
Tae Yeon’s eyelids slowly closed.
“Huh. Ms. Jin Tae Yeon.”
A moment later, whether she had fallen asleep or not, there was no reply no matter how long he called her.
“You touch me like this—and now you fall asleep in this situation?”
Do Jun muttered to himself, but Tae Yeon remained completely still, fast asleep.
He sat across from her, waiting solely for her to wake up—for nearly thirty minutes.
Finally, Do Jun roughly pushed back his bangs with one hand, then decisively picked up Tae Yeon’s bag. Staying inside this room any longer risked things veering from his original intention.
“Let’s go home. Wake up.”
At his words, Tae Yeon rose from her chair—but having consumed too much wine in such a short time, she swayed unsteadily, unable to walk properly.
Do Jun looked down at her, let out a quiet chuckle, then whispered softly into her ear:
“This is purely to get you out safely—that’s all.”
He placed his hand around Tae Yeon’s slender waist, pulling her gently yet firmly against his shoulder for support.
“Please… let go. I can walk by myself.”
Tae Yeon murmured faintly, but Do Jun pretended not to hear and kept moving forward.
Outside, Secretary Choi—who had been waiting—looked surprised upon seeing Do Jun emerge sooner than expected.
“Director, have you already finished dinner?”
His eyes then shifted to Tae Yeon, leaning against Do Jun’s shoulder.
“Oh, Madam is….”
“She got drunk after just two glasses of wine.”
Secretary Choi reached out to help support Tae Yeon, but Do Jun ignored the gesture entirely—
as if he loathed any other man’s warmth touching *his* woman, no matter who it was.
“Just open the door.”
“Yes, Director.”
Secretary Choi opened the rear door, and Do Jun glanced inside before speaking:
“Can you get in on your own—or shall I carry you in?”
At the word *carry*, Tae Yeon suddenly snapped awake and waved her hands.
“I can get in!”
After Tae Yeon seated herself in the back, Do Jun didn’t immediately follow but instead gave some instructions to Secretary Choi.
A short while later, Secretary Choi returned holding a hangover remedy.
Once inside the car, Do Jun handed it to Tae Yeon and asked, concern evident in his voice:
“Are you all right?”
Tae Yeon accepted the drink, took a sip, then smiled apologetically.
“Yes—I got a little tipsy all at once, but I’m starting to sober up now.”
“Let’s go.”
On their way home together—
Tae Yeon suddenly remembered something and let out an “Ah—”
“What?”
She glanced briefly at Secretary Choi, then looked uneasy. Sensing what she wanted to ask, Do Jun spoke first:
“Secretary Choi already knows everything about us.”
“Oh…”
Well, of course—he’d been by Do Jun’s side for several years.
Still, she couldn’t help worrying: what if he accidentally revealed her and Do Jun’s true relationship to others at the company?
As if reading even that thought, Do Jun preemptively reassured her:
“Secretary Choi is extremely discreet. You truly don’t need to worry unnecessarily.”
“That’s a relief.”
By then, Do Jun’s car had arrived at their newlywed home.
Trending
No sooner had they stepped out than Madam Choi—who apparently hadn’t yet gone to sleep—came out to greet them in the yard.
“You’re back?”
Tae Yeon tensed instantly, having completely forgotten she was supposed to act like a loving wife in front of Madam Choi.
In contrast, Do Jun looked utterly composed as he gazed at her—and just as he had in the restaurant, he placed his hand on Tae Yeon’s waist and gave her a tender look.
He truly possessed many faces. Unlike his cold, piercing stare, he now exuded the warmth of a genuinely caring husband.
He turned to Tae Yeon and whispered in a gentle voice:
“You must be tired. Let’s go in and rest together.”
“Yes, Do Jun.”
Seeing Do Jun trying his best made her want to do the same—or rather, made her feel she *had* to.
Tae Yeon forced an awkward smile, lifting the corners of her lips, while Madam Choi opened the front door, allowing them to enter comfortably.
Do Jun spoke to Madam Choi:
“You may retire now, Madam Choi.”
“I’ll prepare honey water for Madam and bring it up.”
Do Jun firmly stopped her as she headed toward the kitchen.
“I’ll do it.”
“You, Director?”
“Yes. I’d like to personally serve my wife. Please go home now.”
Madam Choi bowed slightly and headed toward the annex.
Even after she left, Do Jun’s hand still rested on Tae Yeon’s waist. Once the door clicked shut, Tae Yeon whispered softly:
“Madam Choi has gone.”
“I’m aware.”
With a faint look of reluctance, Do Jun slowly withdrew his hand.
‘Surely I imagined that.’
While Tae Yeon tilted her head in confusion, Do Jun actually headed to the kitchen and took out some honey. Tae Yeon asked:
“You’re not seriously going to make honey water, are you?”
“That’s correct.”
His brief reply was remarkably firm. When Tae Yeon hesitantly approached him, unsure what to do, Do Jun—without even turning around—said:
“You may sit at the table and wait.”
Hearing that, Tae Yeon—who had been about to stop him—reluctantly walked over and sat down.
Everything felt puzzling. Since Madam Choi had gone to the annex, she wouldn’t return until tomorrow’s work hours.
Only Do Jun and herself remained in this house—
So why was Do Jun acting *this* devotedly as a caring husband…?
Suddenly startled, Tae Yeon covered her mouth with both hands.
Do Jun, hearing her gasp, came over with the honey water and asked:
“Why are you so surprised?”
He placed the honey water on the table and gestured toward it with his chin, as if urging her to drink.
When Tae Yeon remained silent and motionless, he raised an eyebrow and asked:
“Could it be—you suspect I’ve laced it with poison?”
“No! It’s just…”
Tae Yeon frantically scanned the kitchen, searching for something.
She looked at the ceiling, then under the table—but failing to find what she sought, she looked flustered.
“Why are you so uneasy?”
Tae Yeon wiggled her fingers, motioning for Do Jun to come closer.
“Huh.”
Seemingly exasperated, Do Jun exhaled a quiet sigh—yet still obediently approached and leaned down, offering his ear. Tae Yeon whispered:
“You didn’t… install CCTV cameras in this house, did you?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well—with Madam Choi gone, and you suddenly making this for me…”
Unable to suppress it, Do Jun burst into laughter—then leaned back in his chair and chuckled again.
“What’s so funny?”

“You.”
“Yes?”
“You must’ve watched too many movies.”
“Really not?”
“No.”
“And no listening devices either, right?”
When Do Jun threw his head back and laughed again, Tae Yeon bit her lip, embarrassed.
“That’s a relief.”
Then she reached for the honey water he’d prepared. After a sip, its sweet fragrance filled her mouth.
Watching her drink so readily, Do Jun asked curiously:
“Why on earth did you think that?”
Embarrassed, Tae Yeon confessed honestly:
“You said you’d make this for me—even though we’re completely alone…”
Do Jun looked genuinely taken aback—as if he hadn’t anticipated this at all.
“What exactly do you think of me? In your mind, am I really such trash—moving only for the sake of putting on a show for others?”
“No! That’s not what I meant at all.”
Do Jun slowly ran his tongue over his lips, then replied in a smooth, low-pitched voice:
“Isn’t this much something even *I* can do for Tae Yeon when she’s had a drink?”
“Of course!”
She hadn’t meant it that way—but at this point, she couldn’t bluntly deny it.
Since Do Jun had served her honey water, she ought to reciprocate in equal measure.
Appearing satisfied, Do Jun nodded and loosened his ever-present tie.
“Ms. Jin Tae Yeon.”
“Yes? What is it?”
“Though we married purely for business, without any emotional attachment, I’d still like us to give our best effort while we live together.”
“Of course.”
Tae Yeon tightly gripped the cup containing the honey water Do Jun had given her. Its warmth seeped through her hands, oddly comforting—as if it were Do Jun’s own warmth.
“I’m sorry for entering without notice.”
“No, it’s fine.”
“I was just so busy preparing for my return that it happened.”
Looking stifled, Do Jun undid one, then two, of the top buttons on his shirt.
The thought that he might strip right here made Tae Yeon’s heart race—so she hurriedly finished the honey water.
“What would you like to do for our date tomorrow?”
Since they’d agreed to spend one mandatory hour together daily, he seemed to be coordinating schedules in advance.
“I don’t really have anything I’ve particularly wanted to try.”
At that, Do Jun’s eyebrow twitched—and he tested her with a probing question:
“Does that mean you’ve already gone on so many dates with the man you love that there’s nothing left you’d like to do with me?”
“No!”
Tae Yeon hastily set down her cup.
“It’s just… it’s a weekday, after all. After work, I usually just come home, rest, and fall asleep—I tend to be a bit low on stamina, too…”
When Do Jun remained silent and expressionless, Tae Yeon added a little more:
“How about we only go out for dates on weekends?”
And the moment she said it—she regretted it.
Even if they were married, Do Jun might not possibly want to spend *weekends* with her…
Tae Yeon opened her mouth to take it back:
“Ah—I suppose you’re busy on weekends, too.”
She expected him to confirm that—but his reply was entirely different.
“I’m not busy.”
“…”
“Then how about this?”

Having reached a decision in an instant, Do Jun offered an alternative suggestion:
“On weekdays when we can’t go on a date, we’ll save those hours—and use them all together on weekends.”
“What?”
“That way, neither of us has to feel impatient on busy workdays.”
At first, it sounded absurd—but soon, she found herself agreeing with his logic.
“That sounds good.”
Unaware of the ripple this suggestion would later cause, Tae Yeon naively replied with cheerful approval—
Thrilled by the mere hope of postponing tomorrow’s date.
As Tae Yeon finished the honey water and rose from her seat, Do Jun added one more thing:
“Ms. Jin Tae Yeon.”
“Yes? What is it?”
“Wouldn’t fairness be best—in everything?”
What did he mean? As she tried to decipher his words—
Do Jun stood up, walked over, and stood before her.
“I’d like to try doing to you… what you once did to me.”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
