Gatherers were primarily responsible for collecting and transporting resources from within the gate—resources such as ores and plants needed for research, monster corpses, and other assorted loot. A similar role was that of the porter—literally, someone who carried loads.

Combatants received not only a base mission stipend based on gate difficulty but also a share of the proceeds from selling loot. Gatherers and porters, however, were essentially day laborers or part-timers.
