Love Me Just Once (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 66
A letter from Mahanas arrived not long after she heard those words.
Ophelia received it in the morning study, with Idren by her side.
Around that time, Idren had been teaching her how to manage Galissa. Though she had indeed served as a governor before, she had started this anew at Idren’s suggestion—since the financial advisor was absent, it wouldn’t hurt to reacquaint herself with the work.
Though Idren didn’t seem particularly fond of studying, he surprisingly possessed a talent for teaching. He explained things meticulously, patiently waiting without scolding even when she repeatedly missed minor details while calculating.
It was just as they were calculating luxury tariff rates adjusted to diplomatic relations and political conditions that someone knocked on the study door.
“Your Highness, a letter has arrived from Reden.”
Idren, who had been standing slightly beside her while she sat at her desk, looked down at Ophelia. When she nodded, he gave the order: “Come in.”
The letter handed to her by the servant who entered shortly after bore a blue seal. Recognizing whose seal it was, Idren remarked,
“It’s from Prince Mahanas.”
It was her first letter from him since their marriage, making the moment feel novel. As Ophelia broke the Reden prince’s seal, she recalled the contents of the last letter she’d received from her brother in her previous life—filled with lengthy, desperate pleas.
Knowing Mahanas now enjoyed greater ease than before, Ophelia understood his reason for contacting her without even reading beyond a few lines. She murmured, “So this is what you meant by handling the canal tolls well.”
As if waiting precisely for those words, Idren replied,
“Isn’t that fine?”
He then looked at her with eyes that seemed to seek praise. His golden eyes sparkled with hope, but her feelings were too tangled to match his mood. Ophelia gazed down at Mahanas’s letter with conflicted eyes.
“Why did you do this?”
