Love Me Just Once (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 41
The prince’s claim that he cherished his younger sister was a lie.
The palace servants, seemingly thoroughly gagged, mechanically chirped that Her Royal Highness the Princess had truly been raised with great affection, yet their descriptions of their master’s hobbies varied wildly. Penrel wondered whether the truth lay in flower arranging, painting, or embroidery.
That wasn’t the only unsettling part.
There were no portraits in the palace documenting the princess’s growth. Only a few formal records remained, showing her dressed in ceremonial robes with a carefully composed expression.
If she had truly been so dearly loved as a princess, everyone would have regretfully preserved memories of her passing time—it was strange indeed.

Slipping a gold coin into the hand of one servant, Penrel asked where Her Royal Highness usually took her walks, and the servant answered it was the field behind the palace.
The field was green and dotted with tall, solitary trees—but that was all. It was far too plain, even inadequate, for a nobly raised princess to frequent.

Thus, Penrel ventured outside the palace to seek information. However, people avoided deep conversation with him—having grown up in northern Aglante, his speech carried a distinctly sharp accent that betrayed his origins.
After countless failures, Penrel finally managed to coax someone in a tavern where he’d concealed his identity. The elderly man, upon seeing a gold coin, led him to his home.
In the old man’s house, Penrel handed over one gold coin each time the man revealed new information. The old man eagerly seized every coin with his wrinkled hands.
Near the end of their conversation, the old man said,
