Love Me Just Once (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 17
Ophelia sat on her bed until sunset. Since she hadn’t permitted anyone to enter the room, the wreckage she had shattered remained exactly as it was.
She neither ate nor changed out of her torn clothes. She simply sat there until darkness settled in.
To be honest, she had expected Mahanas to storm in and slap her. Her violent older brother had never failed to disappoint her in that regard.
But Mahanas didn’t come to see her even after several hours had passed.
She’d rather get the beating over with quickly so she could rest; thus, as no one arrived by nightfall, Ophelia gradually began to grow irritated.
This marriage was clearly ruined now. After what she’d said, no sane man—least of all Idren Sigrasil—would marry her.
And any man capable of offering similar terms would surely prefer another woman over her. Objectively speaking, Reden was simply not an appealing nation for a marriage alliance.
Of course, Mahanas, desperate as he was to sell her off, would probably hunt down some new man from somewhere—but he would never get what he wanted.
After all, no one could possibly sell a product so obviously damaged.
Ophelia lay down on the bed, its crumpled blanket half-slipped off. She stared up at the ceiling, thinking about what would happen next.
In just a few weeks, creditors would descend upon Reden. By now, those who had lent money to the King and Prince of Reden must be nearly out of patience.
They had already taken the royal treasury as collateral before her; soon they’d realize there wasn’t a single gold coin left in the royal coffers. Naturally—they’d have already spent every last bit paying for her dowry.
Ophelia intended to watch clearly the chaos her overdue debts would bring. Though she herself wouldn’t escape unscathed in the process, that was fine. Pain no longer wore down her patience.
Unless it was exhaustion, that is.
Ophelia’s eyes traced the bedpost supporting the canopy above. If it were up to her, she’d gladly hang herself again—anything to end this weariness.
