Love Me Just Once (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 22
Though it was sudden, Penrel prepared the carriage as instructed. It was the best one they could hastily procure in Reden territory.
But when someone remarked that anything would pale in comparison to what the royal family possessed, and suggested simply asking the Mebasa royal house, the king replied:
“It belonged to Prince Reden.”
A hint of scorn tinged the king’s expression as he said this, allowing Penrel to discern that His Majesty did not hold his bride’s elder brother in high regard.
Perhaps he had even paid the bride price early to sever ties with the Mebasa royal family as quickly as possible—especially since the atmosphere in the palace had been rather strange lately.
Although he had only arrived two days ago, Penrel had already clearly sensed this.
Just as he reached this realization, Penrel grew curious about what had transpired between his king and the bride’s family—but he dared not ask, for at that very moment, a servant of King Reden arrived to summon them.
The servant announced that his king had invited their king to breakfast. The king accepted the invitation and asked,
“Will the princess also attend breakfast?”
At that moment, Penrel assumed it was merely a ceremonial question—perhaps the personal curiosity of a man soon to be married.
He certainly had no idea the king would immediately leave with the bride as soon as breakfast concluded.
The moment Idren emerged, holding the hand of Princess Reden—whom he had only seen in portraits a few times before—Penrel could hardly believe his eyes. Of course, no one would ever bring their bride in such a manner.
Sure enough, even from afar, the bride’s displeasure was evident, yet the king nonchalantly helped her into the carriage. Witnessing this, Penrel briefly wished he could lose consciousness.
The king treated his new bride as though they had been married for years and had just argued loudly the previous day.
At this rate, even if he wished to build a good relationship, it would prove impossible.

One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.
On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.
Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.
News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.
Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.
But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.
The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.
The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”
So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.
She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.
*
After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.
Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.
Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.
She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.
“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”
