Raindrops splattered on the ground, dampening her ankles, and the humid air gently weighed down her carefully arranged hair.

Though her meticulously styled appearance had unraveled, Etricia’s entire attention remained fixed on her lover’s strikingly radiant beauty.

“When did you arrive? I was going to come out first and wait for you.”

“I’ve only just arrived myself.”

Hmm? Etricia blinked. Up close, she noticed Edmund’s neatly combed hair and the shoulders of his coat were damp.

He didn’t seem to have been caught in the rain long, yet she worried the chill might give him a cold.

Etricia pulled out her handkerchief and gently dried his wet hair.

“How did you get so soaked?”

“I left the carriage in the square and walked over—unfortunately.”

“I see.”

As Etricia tucked away her handkerchief, she glanced beyond the awning where the rain drizzled steadily.

“What should we do? It’s raining. I suppose our date—”

Just then, Edmund held something out before her chest. Etricia instinctively lowered her gaze.

Wrapped in damp craft paper was a single red tulip. Entranced, she took it and blinked in astonishment.

“How is this even possible? It’s not their growing season, and they’re such a luxury—surely hard to come by.”
