The next morning, the moment I took a sip from the glass of water on the nightstand, it all came rushing back instantly.

I hid my face behind a crumpled document. In the hazy afterimage, the sharp line of his jaw and the curve of his Adam’s apple flickered before my eyes.

The warm breath that brushed against my neck, raising goosebumps, and that deeply hoarse, lethargic voice…

‘Ah, I should’ve just blown a war horn instead. Or better yet, smashed my head with a liquor bottle.’

If I’d done that, I wouldn’t be so flustered now. But if I told the truth, my shame would double.

Enduring it alone was, for me, the best option.

“It’s not a flaw, Edmund.”

Hadn’t he dropped the honorific so casually and haughtily offered unsolicited comfort?

I quietly lowered the document and stole a glance at Edmund.

The breeze from outside the carriage window gently brushed past his shirt collar. His hawk-like golden eyes darted toward me—and clashed with my own, which had been staring at him.

Edmund frowned and, as if to make a point, began lazily fastening his shirt buttons with both hands.

‘Wait… why…?’

He was buttoning up with a look that clearly said, “You don’t deserve to see.”

At this point, I felt an odd sense of unease—as if there were some misunderstanding between us. I couldn’t pinpoint it exactly, but something was definitely very off.

While I stood there, dumbfounded, the carriage came to a halt.
