This was a private room in a restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a clear view of the sea, where Baron Lufua, pressed tightly beside Edmund, was spouting passionately, flecks of spit flying.

Having rushed over upon hearing news of Duke Mipidian’s visit, Baron Lufua had insisted on coming out to greet him and even invited him to lunch, despite Edmund’s message that he wished to stay quietly and depart.

Lirien smiled awkwardly as she dealt with Lady Natra, the baron’s daughter, who was acting overly familiar under the pretense of having met briefly at a banquet.

The baron and his daughter knew my true identity and had been cold toward me. Had Baron Lufua been involved in politics or shown interest in business, their attitude might have been different.

But they had another aim entirely.

Namely, Duke Edmund Mipidian.

Upon hearing of Duke Mipidian’s visit, the baron had dressed up his daughter and invited her to the luncheon gathering.

I had wanted to refuse, but Lirien insisted on going after hearing their mansion had a spire offering an unobstructed view of the sea.

Yet now, not only was the spire nowhere in sight, but I seemed destined to leave with nothing but indigestion.

Lirien kept sending me apologetic glances, clearly not having anticipated this turn of events. I crinkled my nose slightly to signal it was fine.

Just then, as the meal seemed about to conclude, Baron Lufua cleared his throat with a hearty chuckle and spoke.

“Your Grace, it is already an honor to host you—how about letting our daughter show you around the local sights?”

As he spoke, the baron winked at Lady Natra, who shyly covered her flushed cheeks and smiled.

‘That’s far too obvious.’

She was already gazing at Edmund with rapt, lovestruck eyes, blinking rapidly with wide, innocent ones as if begging for his attention.
