Edmund raised one eyebrow and looked at me as if to ask what I was talking about.
“No… Did it really seem that way?”
“Me? What about me gave you that impression?”
Edmund scrunched up his face and retorted coldly. Well, I suppose he had a point—being dragged here against his will to watch an opera probably wasn’t making him feel particularly cheerful.
Edmund subtly slid the opera glasses toward the stage. My head naturally turned that way.
“It’s about to begin. Go ahead and feast your eyes on your beloved handsome man.”
“If you say it like that, it sounds as if I’m terribly fond of good-looking men.”
“Are you saying you’re not?”
“That was meant to imply I’d like you to keep that secret until I’m in my grave.”
Hah—Edmund’s lips parted in a faint smirk.
Soon after, the theater darkened further, and the signal for the opera’s opening sounded. We calmly settled in to watch.
The actor famed far and wide as an extraordinary beauty wasn’t nearly as striking as rumored—merely passably handsome, at best.
‘Wait… Could it be because of him?’
Relying on the dim stage lights, I stole a quick glance at Edmund. He sat with one leg crossed over the other, a hand resting against his temple, watching the performance with cool indifference.
For ten straight minutes, he held that same posture with not the slightest movement, maintaining his sharp, self-centered contours.
