They say the charm of transmigration lies in deviating from the original plot, but I certainly didn’t wish for this!

‘Why on earth is the topic of palace maids coming up right now?’

Wasn’t the only thing left for me to get attacked by pigeons?

Startled beyond composure, Countess Violet and Elia each clamped onto one of my arms and dragged me into a corner.

“That wretched girl—why did she summon you to the palace?”

“Mother, that’s not what matters right now! This is an opportunity! You know royal maids are chosen carefully even among nobles, right? I don’t know what that sly little fox is scheming by wanting to make Sister a maid, but if we play our cards right, our family could rise again!”

“Oh my, you’re absolutely right!”

Just moments ago, the Countess had been fuming red and purple, convinced this was all Cinderella’s trickery, but now her face lit up with temptation. Both she and Elia fixed me with wide, sparkling eyes, silently pressing me.

“Yes, even if it’s infuriating, how can you know if enduring it a little won’t bring a chance for revenge?”

“Exactly, Sister. It’s a chance to build connections with influential figures who frequent the palace and elevate House Violet’s prestige. And once that happens, I might even marry into a good family. You know how much that would help our house.”

Elia shot me desperate, yearning glances. She kept saying “our house, our house,” but her face plainly revealed her true desire: to marry into a prestigious family. It was utterly ridiculous.

“I’d go gladly if I were you!”

“Really?”

I turned my gaze toward the steward, who stood in the corner watching us with a sour expression.

“Do I absolutely have to go? What I mean is—did Her Royal Highness specifically summon me?”

“Well, yes… but if you truly cannot go due to unavoidable circumstances, I could take Lady Elia instead.”

“I see. Then you should enter the palace yourself.”

Meeting prominent figures would actually be better that way. While I brightened at this turn of events, Elia’s expression soured instantly. Of course she knew—if she entered the palace, she’d wither away and die. What a reckless, cunning little brat.

I shot a sidelong glance at Elia’s tear-streaked, smudged makeup.

I was half-tempted to give her a solid flick on the forehead, but then I saw her secretly tugging at the Countess’s dress, pleading for support. Predictably, the Countess took my hand and began persuading me.

“Elia is still so young. She knows nothing—I’m terrified she might cause some scandal if she goes to the palace.”

Perched confidently behind the Countess, Elia’s expression grew smug. The girl who constantly chattered about marriage and romance suddenly acted like a one-year-old whenever it suited her.

“You’re the elder sister. I’d feel at ease if you went.”

The pressure to enter the palace transmitted through the arm she gripped. The Count, who had clearly overheard everything yet remained silent except for an occasional cough, evidently shared their view. Typical—they acted just like a real family would.

‘If I’d known it’d come to this, I’d have run away yesterday. Damn it.’

“Sister, you’ll go to the palace, right?”

Surely you wouldn’t refuse? Three pairs of eyes, half-threatening, fixed on me. I sighed inwardly and forced a gentle smile.

“Of course I was joking. Naturally, I’ll enter the palace—who else would go?”

Turning away from the visibly relieved Countess, the Count, and Elia, I addressed the steward.

“How many days do I have to prepare before entering the palace?”

“Her Royal Highness commanded me to escort you personally. You must depart tomorrow, so please finish your preparations tonight.”

The steward spoke firmly. Even if our title was merely nominal now, we were still a count’s household—such rudeness was outrageous.

Then again, who in the palace would show House Violet any kindness these days? It was obvious I’d be surrounded by hostile people who’d torment me once I arrived.

‘Am I insane? Walking straight into the tiger’s den myself?’

“Understood. I’ll prepare.”

Hiding my true feelings, I replied meekly to the steward.

Perhaps buoyed by newfound hope, my family remained cheerful throughout dinner. Everyone smiled more kindly than usual and fussed over me.

After barely detaching Elia—who kept begging me to send her the Matilda Boutique catalog as soon as I reached the capital—I finally returned to my room.

“A catalog? Please.”

The moment the door shut, I snorted.

“You can just go to the palace yourself and buy it directly.”

What Floria would do next was no longer my concern. There was no need to care about people who selfishly shoved me into a tiger’s den for their own benefit. Remembering how desperately they’d schemed to send me to the palace made their earlier meddling feel utterly unjust.

‘After all, I’d planned to run away today anyway.’

I shrugged and pulled out the still-unlocked suitcase from under my bed, removing bulky, heavy items that served no purpose.

Then I stuffed the now-lighter suitcase full of bread and dried meat. I’d brought plenty under the excuse of hunger, ignoring the anxious look on my face that seemed to ask, “What if I get fat?”

It wasn’t much, but it would sustain me for a while. Thankfully, it was summer—ideal for traveling.

“Almost became the Little Match Girl.”

Lost in silly thoughts, I hadn’t noticed how late it had grown. Outside the window, darkness had settled deeply, and only the occasional hoot of an owl broke the stillness.

‘It’s time.’

I snapped awake and rose from bed. Peeking cautiously outside, I saw no one—just perfect silence.

“Hmm. Perfect weather for escaping.”

First, I tossed the suitcase onto the bushes I’d scouted earlier. The sound wasn’t as loud as I’d feared, but just in case, I held my breath and waited a moment. No one emerged.

Relieved, I picked up the rope I’d pre-made by knotting bed sheets together. I was about to try the very method I’d only ever read about in videos or comics.

“Hope it doesn’t come undone.”

I tugged the knotted section firmly with both hands. It felt surprisingly sturdy. After tying one end securely to the bedpost, I threw the other end out the window. All that remained was summoning courage.

“Alright. You can do this, Reneola Violet. You’ve done rope training before.”

Granted, it was just once during a childhood retreat, but experience mattered. I patted myself reassuringly and sat on the windowsill.

“People don’t die easily. It’s only the third floor. Just stay calm.”

After taking a deep breath to steady my trembling nerves, I gripped the rope and slowly lifted my feet, facing back into the room.

At first, it went smoother than expected. My arms—smooth and utterly unused to hard work—struggled to support my weight, yet they held, and the sheets proved strong. But trouble struck elsewhere.

“Damn it! I didn’t account for the length needed to tie around the post!”

Earlier, when I’d dropped the rope to gauge its length, I’d forgotten to consider how much would be consumed tying it to the bed in the room’s center. Now dangling helplessly just above the first floor, I let out a hollow laugh. What a foolish mistake.

I should’ve at least checked before climbing down!

I wanted to smack my own stupid head, but dared not move for fear of falling.

Now I had two choices: climb back up and add more sheets—but I knew I’d surely lose strength halfway—or simply let go right now.

“It’ll hurt, won’t it?”

It definitely would. From this height, nothing would break, but it’d hurt terribly. Knowing there was no alternative, yet paralyzed by fear, I hesitated—and my strength steadily drained. Just as my arms and hands screamed their limits—

“When exactly were you planning to jump?”

A sudden, unfamiliar voice shattered the silence. Startled, I lost my grip on the rope. My body plummeted instantly toward the ground. Too shocked to even scream, I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing for impact—until something soft caught me. Slowly, I opened my eyes… and gasped.

‘What on earth is this divine face?’

Though his features were shadowed by moonlight, his extraordinary handsomeness was unmistakable! Sharp jawline, straight eyebrows flowing into a perfect nose—all radiated the aura of a true beauty.

Forgetting my predicament, I stared dazedly up at his bewitching violet eyes.

Then, without warning, the hands supporting my shoulders and legs abruptly let go.

“Kyaa!”

I hit the ground with a thud and reflexively stifled my yelp with my hands. I quickly scanned the house—thankfully, no one seemed to have woken. Only then did I rub my sore backside and glare at the man.

If you’re going to catch me, see it through properly! Why drop me so suddenly?!

I wanted to snap, “Does good looks excuse everything?!”—but the words stuck in my throat as moonlight gradually revealed more of his face.

‘Fine, I’ll let it slide. He’s just that handsome.’

He was, without doubt, the most strikingly beautiful man I’d ever seen in real life or fiction. It wasn’t just his looks; an inexplicable magnetism held your gaze, and the slight upward curve of his lips exuded gentle grace.

His unreal beauty seemed to still the very air around him—I nearly lost myself again. I certainly would have, if not for his next words.

“You’re heavier than you look.”

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
