It was the exact same question he’d asked her that night, too.

Ye Rin’s heart pounded so violently it felt like it might burst.

She tried hard to hide her nervousness and put on a professional smile.

“Before I was assigned to this department, I served under Former Executive Managing Director Mo of Jiseok Electronics. I assume we might have crossed paths a few times around the company.”

“Hmm.”

Apparently not the answer he’d wanted, Lee Hyun simply kept tapping his desk with his index finger.

‘Does he really recognize me? No, that can’t be. If he did, he wouldn’t be testing me like this—he’d be demanding why I ran away that night.’

Anxiety wrapped tightly around her entire body, making her feel as if she’d explode at any second.

‘It’s fine. He won’t connect who I was that night with who I am now.’

Back then, her heavy makeup had given her an entirely different vibe from her current appearance.

Plus, she’d even worn the short blonde wig Na Ri lent her—he absolutely wouldn’t recognize her.

But just in case, Ye Rin nervously swallowed.

‘Even if he somehow did recognize me—surely he wouldn’t bring up that night’s incident here at the company?’

Wanting to ease the suddenly tense atmosphere, Secretary Choi cautiously asked,

“Managing Director, may I ask why you’re curious about that…?”

“Never mind.”

Lee Hyun, apparently losing interest, quickly turned his attention to the report Secretary Choi had brought in.

He flipped through a few pages with indifferent eyes, then spoke in an even colder tone than before.

“Team Leader Go really has no conscience at all.”

Lee Hyun even smirked slightly, tugging at the corner of his lips.

Yet everyone present knew clearly this wasn’t a smile born of amusement.

“This proposal—wasn’t this already rejected once before?”

“Ah, yes. That’s why I specifically told them to revise it before resubmitting.”

“Secretary Choi.”

“Yes, Managing Director.”

Lee Hyun stared at Secretary Choi with eyes even sharper and colder than moments ago.

“If you’re going to quit soon, at least don’t do your work half-heartedly—that’d really disappoint me.”

“How am I supposed to properly train your replacement if you handle things like this?”

Secretary Choi could only keep repeating apologies over and over again.

After slamming the proposal shut, Lee Hyun turned his head back toward Ye Rin.

“Secretary Han, come here.”

As Ye Rin stepped closer, Lee Hyun picked up the problematic proposal and handed it to her.

She reached out with both hands to accept the document.

“What do you think the main issue is?”

She hadn’t read the proposal even once before.

Though the former executive she’d served under had been an executive at Jiseok Electronics, he’d belonged to the Mobile Business Division.

That meant none of the data she’d gathered from him could be used here.

Ye Rin quickly flipped through the report, trying her best to grasp its contents as fast as possible.

The report from the Product Planning Team contained findings from recent market trend research.

It appeared to be a standard market survey conducted before launching a new product, but it failed to pinpoint the core issue.

Ye Rin cautiously voiced her opinion.

“It seems the attempt to include too much information has obscured the report’s main point.”

Lee Hyun’s eyes flickered with interest, as if acknowledging her insight.

“If it’s alright with you, would you mind reviewing this report and preparing a summarized version for me?”

“Go ahead.”

Lee Hyun gave a single nod, then gestured toward the office door as if telling her to leave.

Clutching the report tightly, Ye Rin quickly stepped out of his sight.

As soon as the door clicked shut, Secretary Choi gave her a thumbs-up.

“Secretary Han, how did you figure that out so quickly?”

“Most reports coming in tend to have similar issues.”

Her previous supervisor, Executive Managing Director Mo, had barely done any actual work.

Even well-crafted reports or proposals would get rejected if they exceeded a single A4 page—he wouldn’t even read them.

She never imagined all that summarizing experience under him would come in handy like this.

“Secretary Han, then I’m counting on you to summarize the Product Planning Team’s report well.”

“Yes.”

Secretary Choi returned to his seat, quickly searched something up, then started making a call.

“Yes, am I speaking with CEO Kim Na Ri of Brand Cheto?”

At the sudden mention of that familiar name, Ye Rin stopped typing on her keyboard.

She stared at Secretary Choi as if in a trance.

“I’m Secretary Choi Hyun Joon, serving Managing Director Cha I Hyun of Jiseok Electronics.”

After politely introducing himself, Secretary Choi swiftly stated his purpose.

“I’m calling because there’s something I’d like to ask you in person, if possible.”

Ye Rin’s pupils trembled.

‘He’s meeting Na Ri? Secretary Choi? Why?’

Her heart began racing again.

What she heard next was truly something to behold.

“Our Managing Director practically threatened me to go meet CEO Kim Na Ri in person.”

Realizing his word choice might’ve been too strong, Secretary Choi quickly corrected himself.

“Ah—not ‘threatened,’ exactly—he just strongly insisted. Anyway, my main point is: Would it be possible for you to make time today?”

Pretending to look at her monitor, Ye Rin perked up her ears to listen closely.

Soon enough, it seemed Secretary Choi had secured an appointment with Na Ri and ended the call cheerfully.

Secretary Shin clicked his tongue and remarked to Secretary Choi,

“It’s because of that woman, isn’t it?”

The phrase “that woman” lodged sharply into Ye Rin’s ears.

“Ugh… Yeah. Honestly, I’m going crazy these days because of the Managing Director.”

Muttering under his breath, Secretary Choi stood up, still grumbling.

“Why does he expect me to go find the woman he lost after falling for her at first sight?”

“Secretary Han? Your pen just fell.”

Secretary Choi stood up and addressed her.

“Where… are we going?”

“It’s about the matter our Managing Director has been most concerned with lately.”

As she followed Secretary Choi, Ye Rin tightly clasped her hands together.

Unaware of her inner turmoil, Secretary Choi gave her a brief explanation of recent events.

He told her how Lee Hyun had met a woman at the after-party following Brand Cheto’s charity bazaar—and how he’d since become obsessed with finding her.

“Why is the Managing Director looking for that woman?”

“It seems he fell for her at first sight that night.”

“What?”

Ye Rin was taken aback.

Secretary Choi sighed deeply, as if her reaction were completely understandable.

“If someone who’s never shown interest in women his whole life is this spellbound, she must be stunningly beautiful.”

Ye Rin just bit her lip tightly.

Hearing that Lee Hyun had fallen for her at first sight made sweat prickle down her spine.

‘Please stop looking for me! It was just one night—why go to such lengths to find me…?’

Cautiously, she voiced her concern.

“I doubt that woman wants to be found.”

Secretary Choi gave a slight nod at her words.

“I’ve told the Managing Director that exact same thing dozens of times.”

“And yet…?”

“He just keeps repeating, ‘Go find her.’”

Secretary Choi sighed so heavily it felt like the ground might crack beneath him.

Just then, the door to the managing director’s office burst open, and Lee Hyun appeared with a blank expression.

“Managing Director—we were just about to leave.”

“I’m coming too.”

“You’re coming as well? But you have a meeting soon…”

“Cancel it.”

Lee Hyun strode out of the office quickly, as if meetings meant nothing to him.

As she followed behind him with Secretary Choi, Ye Rin carefully asked,

“So… are we going to meet the President of Cheto Brand now?”

“Yes. We’re supposed to get the guest list from that night’s after-party.”

“…”

This was absolutely maddening.

Under no circumstances could her name appear on that party guest list.

Ye Rin hurriedly pulled out her phone and sent a message to Na Ri.

[Na Ri, I’m heading to your office right now—please, don’t acknowledge me if you see me.]

Once in the car, she glanced quickly at Secretary Choi, who was focused on driving, and typed another message fast.

[And later, some guy’s going to ask for the after-party guest list—make sure my name isn’t on it. Got it?]

The moment Ye Rin hit send, Na Ri immediately called her.

She couldn’t answer right now, so Ye Rin quickly switched the call to silent mode.

If she’d known that one night of recklessness would spiral into such a huge mess, she never would’ve slept with Lee Hyun that night.

‘Did you really think it wouldn’t come to this?’

To hide her anxiety, Ye Rin stared fixedly out the window.

From the back seat, Lee Hyun quietly called her name.

“Secretary Han.”

“Yes, Managing Director.”

“Secretary Choi seems utterly hopeless at finding people.”

Leaning back deeply into his seat, Lee Hyun watched Ye Rin’s back with cold eyes.

“I’m hoping you’ll be different.”

“I’ve actually never searched for anyone before, either…”

“You’ll have to find her.”

“What?”

Before she could fully process his words, Secretary Choi’s car had already arrived at Cheto’s building.

Lee Hyun, in apparent urgency, stepped out of the car and disappeared inside quickly.

Honestly, this was the moment she most wanted to run away.

Ye Rin forced her leaden feet to move and reluctantly entered Cheto’s office building.

Apparently having been informed ahead of time that Lee Hyun was coming, the large conference room stood empty.

“Welcome.”

Na Ri couldn’t hide her surprise upon seeing Ye Rin appear right beside Lee Hyun.

Standing behind Lee Hyun, Ye Rin quickly shook her head.

‘Please—if you have any sense at all—don’t pretend to know me.’

Thankfully, Na Ri seemed to understand. She put on a businesslike smile again and guided them both.

“What kind of tea would you like?”

“No need. We’re actually here to find someone.”

Lee Hyun cut straight to the point without preamble.
