In the third life, Liam had a one-eyed wolf he took everywhere with him.

The wolf was too fierce and one-eyed, so a merchant had tried to kill it, but Liam bought it and took it with him, making it his guard dog.

Though the creature was said to take three years to fully grow, it was already so large and muscular that people wouldn’t dare approach Liam.

That wolf had merely bared its front paw.

“Your Highness, go on ahead.”

Liam shook off Valken and brushed the dirt from his foot. Threatening it with his sheathed sword to keep it at bay, Liam sent me forward first.

Valken was unmistakable.

The wolf that always stayed beside Liam bore many scars—evidence of the harsh time it had endured, surviving alone in the wild until finally captured by humans.

“Let’s go.”

Liam waved his foot sharply. Startled, Valken let out a yelp and stumbled backward, tumbling down the slope.

Judging by the rustling sound, he didn’t seem badly hurt. Liam started walking.

I followed him, taking comfort in the sound of fallen leaves below the slope.

But our connection wasn’t meant to end there.

“That little wolf.”

Liam frowned and turned to look at me—or rather, at my feet.
