Just how much had he pushed Elise? Karan, gazing at Elise’s back as she lay asleep as if collapsed, shook his head in self-loathing and slipped out of bed.

He roughly shoved his feet into the trousers dropped on the floor and crossed the room barefoot.

Out of habit, Karan opened his cigarette case and placed a cigarette between his lips—but didn’t light it.

He worried the acrid smoke might disturb Elise’s deep slumber.

Instead, he chewed on the tip of the unlit cigarette and sat perched on the windowsill.

He watched her from afar, listening to her soft, steady breathing, his eyes tracing the faint rise and fall of her back. The vivid red marks, clearly visible even from a distance, gave him a certain satisfaction.

Yet, separately from that, a dull ache throbbed deep in his chest.

Watching her here, he could now imagine just how hard last night must have been for her.

“Small.”

Her hands, her feet, even the arms that held him—all objectively average in size, yet appearing small only because Karan himself was unusually large.

And yet he’d tormented her relentlessly, craving to hear the words he wanted from her.

“Do as you please.”

“Alright.”

“Please do it.”

Those were the words Karan longed to hear from Elise.
