Benjamin’s bedroom in the Windsor Duchy.

Benjamin suspected that the Empress was behind the undead as well.

“But the possibility that the Empress herself is a Gypsy is extremely low.”

Mitchell, who had already begun preparing to depart for the Imperial Capital at dawn, objected. Carly, standing by the door of Benjamin’s bedroom with a troubled expression, agreed.

“Everyone in the Empire knows the Empress is a devout follower of the Gwisheon faith. If there had been even the slightest trace of anything related to the Heven faith on her person, it would have been exposed the moment she entered the temple.”

“Exactly. Moreover, the Empress has never once faced disciplinary action from the temple in the past several decades. Your Highness, who humbly served within the temple yourself, surely knows this well.”

Benjamin nodded under the gazes of Mitchell and Carly.

“Then it must be a third party—someone who has never directly contacted me even once until now.”

If they had met even once, an impure aura would have clung to them. Benjamin had decided to return to the Imperial Capital to confirm this.

‘The Empress’s range of movement is ultimately confined to the Imperial Capital. No matter how secretly she moves, she cannot evade the eyes I’ve placed there.’

Yet Benjamin had not yet received any reports of suspicious activity from the Empress. Unless, of course, she possessed the skill to evade his surveillance entirely.

‘If I catch those who frequently come and go from the Imperial Capital like hunting rats, I’ll surely find a way.’

It would be an extremely tedious and time-consuming task, but it would at least yield some certainty.

Benjamin stroked his chin as he spoke.

“Gypsy magic is incredibly sticky. No amount of ritual purification through bathing can wash it away. Therefore, the Empress must have… issued her orders through two or even three intermediaries.”
