“Ow!”
A sound like a walnut cracking echoed. Ivan clutched the back of his head and sank straight to the floor. Beside him stood Mitchell, holding a thick book.
“Again, again, again. Just because you pulled off one thing, you crawl right back up, again.”
“Mitch—ell!”
Clutching his throbbing head—numbness giving way to sharp pain—Ivan glared at Mitchell. But seeing her let out a faint sigh and cross her arms, he quietly turned his head away once more.
“You always hate only me.”
Ivan plopped down right there in full lotus position. He then propped his elbow on the clearly defined muscles of his thighs, visible even through his tight-fitting pants, and rested his chin on his hand. It was as if an invisible tail were tapping impatiently against the floor. Anyone could see he was sulking, protesting in the most obvious way.
Besides, with chairs and sofas plentiful all around, why did he have to sit on the floor again?
“Get up. And watch your tone.”
Mitchell gave a slight nod, but Ivan pretended not to hear. Mitchell’s eyebrows twitched.
“Ivan Bilzek. Are you deaf to your superior’s words?”
Only after Mitchell sternly called out his full name did Ivan—who hadn’t budged an inch—finally recite his official title.
“Deputy Commander Ivan Bilzek of the Second Division, Elonyac Imperial Knights.”
Yet he remained seated just as insolently as before. Just as Mitchell was about to say something, Ivan abruptly jumped to his feet and spoke.
