I'll Abandon the Fake Savior (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
Yuricien listened to Lafine’s voice repeatedly shouting to Kendali that everything would be fine and thought to himself.
‘How can she possibly act like that?’
In Yuricien’s opinion, Lafine was the epitome of a spoiled brat. Kendali had indulged her since childhood, and after marrying Jorgen, Lafine had been too busy reveling in everything the Windsors had to offer to think of anything else.
[Lafine, I want that! Can I have it?] [Who are you? I’m a Windsor. And you don’t even greet me?] [Count Benrail? That’s beneath the Windsors.]She acted as though she’d never once learned noble etiquette, and because of this, Lafine was nearly isolated within aristocratic society.
This remained true even though the Windsor name followed Lafine’s. In fact, it would be more accurate to say the Windsor prestige was gradually sinking to match Lafine’s level.
Every time Yuricien heard from Anderssen—long since banished by Kendali—just how much Lafine was tarnishing the Windsor name outside the estate, his head spun.
The name Windsor was guarded by dozens of past family heads and hundreds of clan members, held more precious than life itself. Yet an outsider who didn’t even grasp its true weight was utterly destroying it.
‘Others probably even enjoyed Lafine’s outrageous behavior.’
They praised the Windsors to their faces but secretly wished for their downfall.
‘How smug they must have felt, watching the Windsors self-destruct because of an adopted daughter.’
There were certainly those who felt sympathy, but even they stayed silent after Jorgen went missing.
‘I already knew Lafine had grown even more reckless after that…’
He also knew she treated him far worse than she did the other servants. He thought he’d become numb to Lafine’s irrational behavior—but perhaps that had been arrogance.
‘How could she even act that way toward Mother?’
Even if she’d been caught red-handed, surely no stranger would behave like that. Yuricien clicked his tongue inwardly. The more he learned about Kendali and her daughter, the more absurd they seemed—far worse than anything he’d personally endured.
When the situation appeared resolved, Yuricien quickly approached Jorgen.
“Father, are you all right?”
“Yes… I’m fine.”
Jorgen replied in a trembling voice, as if only now beginning to grasp what had happened. Yuricien hugged him tightly, filled with pity and guilt for the ordeal Jorgen had suffered the moment he arrived.
“You were frightened.”
Yuricien whispered. Jorgen remained still for a moment, then slowly shook his head.
To say he wasn’t frightened would be a lie. He’d nearly died—without even understanding why, he’d almost ended up just like that melted marble.
It was true his heart pounded wildly as he held Yuricien close. Yet strangely, he also felt an unexpected sense of relief.
‘It’s as if… a painful tooth has finally been pulled.’
Though he couldn’t precisely define the feeling due to his lost memories, the vague thought came to him anyway. It felt as though one piece of a badly misaligned puzzle had finally clicked into place.
“I almost feel it’s for the best. Better this happened early than to keep worrying over that woman…”
“Father…”
Yuricien’s heart ached as he realized Jorgen wasn’t just saying this to comfort him—it was sincere. That carefree expression on Jorgen’s face couldn’t possibly be false.
‘Could Father really have been brainwashed by Kendali?’
He hadn’t known Kendali could use magic, but Yuricien had clearly seen her strangely glowing golden eyes before Carly covered them.
‘Now it all makes sense.’
Jorgen had been so devoted to his wife that others would beg him to stop in front of company. After losing his wife Lilian, he’d poured all that love onto Yuricien.
‘So that’s why Father pushed so hard to remarry without even properly consulting me…’
Back then, Jorgen had been like a moth flying straight into a flame. Not every marriage needed to be strategic, but his union with Kendali had done nothing but harm to the Windsors—the name he cherished almost as much as Yuricien himself.
‘He’d sworn before Mother’s grave to do everything possible so I’d never feel her absence.’
Marrying Kendali had gone against Jorgen’s very principles.
And then there was that carriage accident Jorgen suffered. That day, he’d never planned to travel by carriage through such unstable mountain terrain—it was the day of his regular meeting with his vassals.
‘Yet he insisted on going to pick flowers blooming beyond that mountain, claiming he had a promise with Kendali.’
Even now, it sounded utterly absurd.
While Yuricien was lost in thought, he heard Anderssen instructing the servants to clean the floor.
“Hurry up. This isn’t just any place—it’s where our great Lord of Windsor resides.”
“Yes, we’ll restore it immediately!”
Though dismissed as steward, Anderssen had managed the Windsors for so long that the experienced servants welcomed his orders with great relief.
Stepping out of Jorgen’s embrace, Yuricien absentmindedly glanced toward the door—and saw Daisy standing outside.
“!”
She’d been watching Yuricien anxiously, but when their eyes met, she gave a bright, cheerful smile and hurried away. She must have been worried the whole time Yuricien hadn’t returned at the promised hour.
The servants swiftly replaced the melted marble with practiced skill and vanished. Their finishing touches were so perfect the new marble didn’t stand out at all. Watching this, Yuricien asked from the bedroom after even Anderssen had left.

“Did you confirm it?”
Earlier, Jorgen had wanted to verify whether he’d truly loved Kendali, which nearly got him poisoned when he met her. Leaning against the pillow Yuricien had propped up for him, Jorgen stayed quiet for a while before slowly shaking his head.
“It’s too brief a moment to be certain. But… but at least right now, I don’t think I love her. It’s just… I feel nothing at all.”
Jorgen frowned slightly as he continued, tapping his chest.
“When I see you, Yuri… here… it aches as if being squeezed tight. Even without my memories, I feel as though I’ve committed an unforgivable, lifelong sin against you. Probably the guilt of letting you fall into that woman’s clutches.”
“Don’t say that, Father.”
“It’s not just that. I feel such distant, profound happiness—it’s as if this couldn’t possibly be anything but a father’s love for his daughter. Just looking at you is enough.”
Because of this, Jorgen added, he was now certain he had a daughter—and that she was Yuricien.
“But with that woman? Nothing. I feel nothing at all. Even seeing her beg for her life or shed tears leaves me utterly indifferent. So… though I can’t be hasty in judgment without my memories, I suspect… I might have been brainwashed.”
Hearing Jorgen’s words, Yuricien felt an overwhelming warmth swell deep in his chest.
In truth, during the carriage ride here, one thought had kept haunting Yuricien: ‘Is someone still the same person without their memories?’
‘Is it right to force the great Windsor legacy onto Jorgen when he’s forgotten it?’ kept troubling him. ‘Isn’t my desire to fix everything just grandiose selfishness?’ he’d reflected.
But now, Jorgen had shattered that worry.
“I will regain my memories. But before that, I want to resolve the sorrow you suffered in my absence.”
Jorgen gently took Yuricien’s hand in a warm, reassuring grip. At that touch, Yuricien let a single tear fall—one he’d thought had already dried moments before.
He was bewildered by himself. Was he really this tearful? Was crying all he could do? Yet it didn’t feel bad at all.
“Yes, Dad.”
Yuricien finally felt free to act spoiled with Jorgen again.
He could now confess everything that had happened—how perilous and frightening it had been. And when Jorgen heard Yuricien was to marry the Margrave of Hopgrand, he grew furious with that unmistakably Jorgen-like expression.
“Call Anderssen for me. I must send word to the Margrave of Hopgrand at once.”
Seeing Jorgen’s determined effort to rise from his seat filled Yuricien with such reassurance that he barely suppressed a laugh.
“But you can’t even write letters yet?”
“If you have no teeth, does that mean you can’t eat? I’ll just draw pictures.”
Yuricien burst out laughing helplessly at Jorgen’s bold declaration, chin held high.
That recklessness—whenever Yuricien was involved, Jorgen would drop everything and say the most absurd things with headstrong audacity.
He’d truly missed it.
Already, it felt as though everything was falling back into place. Yet no matter how happy one might be, happiness is fleeting, not enduring.
In a few days, Yuricien was destined to face a new disappointment.
For instance, Heathcliff might step forward himself, declaring he’d committed a grave wrong and, as an apology, would formally break things off and actively push forward Yuricien’s glorious marriage to the Margrave of Hopgrand.
