Veronica returned the knife.

“Sharp objects require extra caution when used—you might end up hurting yourself.”

Then she turned away to look for a mop. She could feel Silia’s gaze from behind.

“The person who just left moved rather slowly. It’ll probably take them a while to come back. I’ll pretend not to notice until then.”

She didn’t know why the person had secretly come to visit, but showing up with a knife surely meant there were complicated circumstances involved. Veronica had no intention of probing further; she calmly picked up the mop.

Then she wiped up the porridge spilled on the floor.

“……Thank you.”

From behind her, she heard Silia walking back toward her bed.

After a brief silence, Veronica glanced back and saw Silia quietly gazing down at the patient, who was supposedly her twin sister.

Her tender gestures—brushing back hair and wiping porridge from the girl’s cheek—were filled with deep affection.

“Sister……”

Her quiet voice carried profound longing. Veronica kept her back turned and silently continued mopping.

Veronica didn’t properly see Sir Thompson again until a week had passed.

Given the separate floors, mealtimes were the only chance they had to even catch a glimpse of each other.

Even then, they were frequently called away before managing a proper conversation.
