Floyd walked holding Roxiana’s hand.

Roxiana pressed down firmly on her hat with her right hand—the one not held by him—to keep it from flying away in the wind, and looked around. The alley they were walking through was narrow and seldom used by people; without the glimmering mana stones, it was gloomy and dark.

Roxiana worried that assassins might leap out from the shadows between the buildings. Yet Floyd, who had actually been targeted by an assassin’s blade, showed no sign of caution at all.

‘Is he that confident? Or is he simply fearless by nature?’

Either way, his demeanor was astonishing for someone who had nearly been ambushed just moments ago.

Emerging from the alley, they arrived at the seaside—not a harbor, but a beach with a wide expanse of sand. At the far end of this vast sandy stretch stood a sheer cliff.

Roxiana gazed, momentarily entranced, at the night sea.

The moon illuminated the pitch-black darkness, casting a long path of silvery light across the water. The rhythmic shimmer of that light, dancing with the undulating waves, was mesmerizing.

Swishhh—

The regular sound felt refreshing. The salty sea breeze, stronger than the one she had smelled at the Lily Palace, stirred a strange yet poignant sense of nostalgia within her—despite never having truly looked at the ocean like this before, it felt as though she’d visited this place long ago.

She didn’t even notice her hat blowing away in the strong wind.

Only after Floyd retrieved it and placed it back on her head did Roxiana tear her eyes from the dark sea and look up at him.

“It’s beautiful.”

“Yes. It’s a place I love.”

He took off his coat and spread it wide on the sand. Then he sat beside it and patted the fabric lightly.
