Startled by his unexpected action, Roxiana stared at him wide-eyed. His face, which had been far away just moments ago, was now extremely close—so close she could feel his breath. Realizing this, Roxiana gasped sharply and pressed her lips together.
Floyd walked while holding Roxiana in his arms. After barely calming her racing heart, Roxiana finally spoke.
“I can walk by myself.”
“Not with those feet.”
“Your Highness, what will people think if you carry a slave yourself?”
“What do I care what they think? They wouldn’t dare utter a word in front of me anyway.”
His confidence, bordering on absurdity, left Roxiana speechless, and she fell silent. Though he walked quickly, to Roxiana, cradled in his arms, the time felt endlessly long.
The servants bowed their heads wordlessly upon seeing him, but Roxiana found it difficult to calm herself under their gazes and thoughts. The unfamiliar sensation of her heart tightening and pounding so fiercely bewildered her, and she squeezed her eyes shut tightly.
Patria, who had just returned after barely managing to collect money from the steward, had been searching for the missing Roxiana. Upon seeing her being carried back in Floyd’s arms, Patria sighed in relief and quietly stepped outside the reception room.
Floyd sat Roxiana down on the sofa, knelt on one knee before her, and placed her ankle onto his thigh. Then, he began massaging her bare foot gently with both hands.
