Claudius yanked Ilyd’s wrist and shoved her against the wall. The sudden impact against her back drew a short gasp from her.
She wanted nothing more than to shove him away and flee swiftly, but Claudius had already trapped her body as if binding her. The more she struggled, the narrower the space between them became.
She would have preferred to simply turn her back and ignore him, but with both wrists firmly held, she couldn’t even move.
“Ilyd… just tell me.”
It nearly sounded like a plea. Even uttering her name seemed to strain him.
“…Why are you acting like this?”
Claudius’s red eyes trembled. The whites of his eyes had turned entirely crimson, as if blood vessels had burst. A glint of pain—and a shade of warning—flickered at the corners of his eyes.
He opened his mouth, his face on the verge of tears.
“Why, why do you make me so miserable? Answer me, Ilyd.”
“You started it first, Claudius.”
