A place where a beast of a man treated others as less than human. Is this my future? He tilted his head back to stare at the ceiling. The dark, suffocating chamber admitted not a sliver of light.

The moment Rivel was seized, search parties were dispatched to the mercenary encampment. They cross-referenced records of who had gone out, compared them to the weapons used by the mercenaries, and placed everyone under suspicion.

It was fortunate he’d deliberately put Ruth to sleep. Ruth’s already faint presence would blur even further when asleep.
