Ariel, who had attended Blake’s lessons for several days, kept her mouth tightly shut, surprised by how normal the lessons actually were.

She had secretly searched Lucy’s room and the playroom thoroughly, half-expecting the two of them to be up to something, but fortunately found no suspicious notes whatsoever.

Only thick books—presumably the ones Damian wanted Lucy to study—continued to pile up.

Though she sighed in relief each day, Ariel still watched the pair closely, always wary that some sort of secret deal might exist between Blake and Lucy.

And just then, the departure ceremony—which children were not allowed to attend—was approaching.

Though Damian had begun preparations the moment he returned from war, it had been repeatedly postponed due to other matters, and now it could be delayed no longer—the ceremony was set.

In most noble households, if children couldn’t attend such events, they were either left in the care of a nanny or entrusted entirely to the butler.

But in Lucy’s case, Blake, in his role as tutor, was entrusted with looking after her.

Ever since Blake arrived at the ducal residence, Ariel couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling about leaving the two of them alone.

Her feet, reluctant to move away, had already carried her upstairs to Lucy’s room multiple times to give one more reminder.

“Ray.”

“You’ve already scolded me more times than I can count on two fingers, sister.”

“Still, listen. Don’t forget the promise you made with me. Your job is to study with Lucy and play with her. Understood?”

Blake waved his hand dismissively, clearly too tired to even reply.
