The afternoon imperial court meeting lasted a full six hours.

He had just crushed the nobles’ latest proposal, lost deep in thought.

In the end, no one spoke up, and the meeting dragged on for another two hours.

As soon as Damian left his seat, one noble slouched back in his chair and spoke up.

“That’s probably it. My wife said she heard that Earl Shannon and the Duchess met outside the banquet hall.”

“The Duchess?”

Another noble repeated in surprise.

“Well, they say it was purely by chance—bumped into each other with a loud ‘thud!’ while walking through the corridor.”

The noble spread both hands and clapped them together like he was miming two people colliding, even adding sound effects with his mouth.
