Ariel sat at her desk briefly since early morning.
She unfolded a map, checked the Allento territory, and let out a sigh.
The butler’s only reply was that Damian would speak to her directly himself—but in other words, this also meant Damian wouldn’t mind Ariel bringing up the matter herself.
Given Damian’s character, he likely considered the territory he’d handed over to her as already no longer his.
He would believe it was Ariel’s prerogative, as its owner, to decide however she wished.
Ariel turned away after another sigh.
She’d heard he’d returned very late last night and spent the night in his study.
He’d been overwhelmed with merchant ship matters, had to wrap up affairs at the ducal residence, and the Imperial Court was pushing him forward as the Emperor’s faction—so he must have had a great deal on his plate.
Assuming he’d surely be asleep, Ariel quietly opened the door without knocking.
Lately, whenever she spoke with Lucy, her thoughts often drifted to Damian.
White lies.
She wondered if perhaps Damian was also telling her white lies…
Yet at times like this, she wished he’d just tell her the truth.
If he told her the truth, her heart wouldn’t ache so painfully as it did now.
She even wanted to press him—was the lie he was telling now truly for her benefit, or merely for his own?

One-line summary: The female lead is actually cold-hearted and extremely rational. She has stage-by-stage relationships and won’t two-time, but there will always be someone who secretly likes her.

I see that Lucy is guiding her tutor to discover the truth and realize that he is being manipulated.
Poor Ariel, I know her daughter Lucy would have ways to resolve that situation peacefully, but she went to extremes 😅 Poor mother, I imagine the next episode will show the anguish she’s carrying in that situation, especially since Lucy is under Ariel’s care.
What a fascinating novel! The title suggests that Lucy might be a regressor, but from my point of view, she behaves like a gifted child. How curious!
