The dawn when everyone was asleep.

Although it was just a simple appendectomy, Kyeong-su couldn’t leave Hye-young alone after her sedation, so he rubbed his sleepy eyes and quietly slipped into her hospital room.

There was a folding bed for guardians in the room, but since it seemed awkward for a young man to use it, Kyeong-su had been studying all along in the ward’s lounge.

‘Whew. Looks like she’s not in pain anymore. Thank goodness.’

Right after she’d woken from anesthesia, Hye-young had looked as if she might die at any moment, and Kyeong-su truly felt his heart freeze solid.

He knew rationally she’d regain consciousness soon, but seeing her limp and lifeless form made him lose all sense of reason.

Once awake, Hye-young scolded Kyeong-su, insisting he go home immediately.

But Kyeong-su simply couldn’t bring himself to leave her alone at the hospital.

After confirming Hye-young was sleeping soundly with a peaceful expression, Kyeong-su returned once more to the lounge.

Leaning on the dim light, he rubbed his drowsy eyes and checked his phone.

“Oh, they’ve deposited the money. Thank goodness.”

Thanks to health insurance, an appendectomy wasn’t an expensive procedure.

But back then, both of them were barely in their early twenties, struggling just to get through each day, and having spare cash wasn’t easy.

Moreover, they’d recently spent what little savings they had on Hye-young’s long down jacket.

Though Hye-young immediately assured him upon waking that she had money saved and not to worry, Kyeong-su didn’t want her—already unwell—to fret over finances too.
