I Killed My Husband (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
She had never looked like this before. Richard found her disheveled appearance—so different from her usual neat attire and upright posture—quite pleasing.
To beg for forgiveness like this, then pull up her nightgown and let Mercedes be held in his hands.
It was a thrilling scene.
Feeling unexpectedly delighted, he smiled faintly.
“Yes, Mercedes. Have you thought about it?”
Mercedes approached slowly, gazing at him with an odd look.
“Yes, I have thought about it.”
“What did you think?”
“I realized I must fulfill my duty. I’ve been foolish all this time, Your Majesty.”
Mercedes’ voice sounded unusually lively.
Richard’s chest stirred at this utterly different demeanor from the emotionless girl he knew.
“Yes. I never intended to go this far… but seeing you truly reflect, I believe my judgment was right.”
She had been properly broken.
Richard admired Mercedes, impressed by his own wisdom.
Through her white nightgown, her silhouette was visible—slim, yet undeniably beautiful. That this woman, like a living masterpiece, had come to belong to him filled him with renewed delight.
“Yes, Your Majesty… You were absolutely right. Your judgment.”
Mercedes staggered toward Richard, arms outstretched, as if begging to be embraced.
Had anyone else seen her—her posture, her dreamy tone—they might have found it strange.
But Richard, thrilled with every step she took toward him, paid no mind to such thoughts.
His heart pounded twice.
As Mercedes drew near, she spoke.
“I intend to be sensible from now on.”
A faint red glow began to emanate from Mercedes’ fingertips. Slowly, her hand reached out and wrapped around Richard.
Only then did Richard realize something was wrong.
“Ugh…”
His breath was slowly constricted, his strength draining away. It felt as if all his blood were being siphoned out.
By the time he noticed his body stiffening, Mercedes’ figure had already blurred in his vision. He wanted to resist, but it felt as if his life were instantly extinguished.
“Huh… ugh… hck…”
Richard’s breath grew faint, nearly extinguished within the swirling darkness.
Mercedes withdrew her hand and drew the dagger he had given her.
“The final one.”
“M… hck… r… r…”
“I shall return the gift you gave me.”
The dagger he had given her gleamed in the moonlight.
Without hesitation, Mercedes plunged the blade into Richard’s throat, now pale and lifeless.
Blood gushed forth like a fountain from the wound.
“If my husband has gone mad, helping him regain his senses… is my duty. Isn’t this what you desired?”
Mercedes smiled faintly.
Richard died beneath her hand.
[This is the timeline separator]“KAAAAAAAH!”
A scream shattered the palace’s tranquility. Those who rushed to the source of the sound witnessed:
“Y-Your Majesty…?!”
The Crown Prince, lifeless with eyes closed, stabbed by a blade; before him sat the Crown Princess, calm and drenched in blood.
“What in heaven’s name…!”
Among the startled attendants, several fainted upon seeing the blood, their cries adding to the chaos.
“Quickly, confirm! The Prince is injured!”
One of them regained composure and shouted, and finally, personnel flooded into the chamber.
In the midst of the confusion, Mercedes sat motionless on the sofa, her expression as blank as ever.

“This is absurd! The Crown Princess murdered the Crown Prince!”
“What an unspeakable atrocity!”
“She must be executed immediately!”
The Crown Princess had killed the Crown Prince.
But since she held noble rank, she could not be executed outright—she required a trial.
Of course, the outcome of the trial was certain: execution.
It was said preparation for the trial would take time.
Exactly one week.
The moment Mercedes’ lifespan was extended.
“How ridiculous.”
Mercedes, confined in the underground prison, murmured upon hearing the news.
She had been given one week to choose suicide. One week remained until the inevitable verdict condemned her to death.
Her life strangely persisted, stretched again and again by these brief seven-day intervals.
Yet now, the thought that everything would truly end brought her peace.
Since the moment she arrived at the Count’s household as a child, she had lived as if already dead.
She had dragged herself on, lacking the courage to end it, yet never once believed her life held meaning.
She had learned to surrender and endure—but ironically, when the blade aimed at her heart loomed before her, a spark ignited within her.
And the flower engraved on the blade, symbolizing patience, fueled by the betrayal of the one closest to her, stoked that spark.
For the first time, she wondered.
What was her life? Why had she been forced to endure?
If her life was meant only for endurance, why had she been born into this world? Did her existence hold any value?
From the moment the Crown Prince offered her the dagger, there had been no path to survival.
She had begged for forgiveness—but Richard had never once approved of her demeanor.
This time would be no different.
Thus, for the first time in her life, she turned inward—and made a choice for herself.
A way the Crown Prince’s permission for suicide could be used differently.
“Perhaps I was born to kill them.”
A way to make all who had wounded her companions on the path to hell.
Since she had killed the Crown Prince, the Count’s family would not escape unscathed. His death would drag them all into ruin. This was more than enough recompense for her own demise.
Yet one thing troubled her.
“Mother said never to use it.”
Mercedes smiled bitterly.
The ability to absorb life force, then unleash a one-time spell using that accumulated power.
It was a power she and her mother had borne from birth.
Richard had been far larger than her, and renowned for his martial skill.
So killing him was unavoidable.
Though she had never used this ability before, after swallowing poison and her emotions boiling over, she had instinctively seized Gertrude and drained her life force to heal herself—naturally learning the method.
As if it were nature’s law.
‘Still… no one knows of my ability.’
As her mother had stressed, Mercedes must never let anyone discover it. She must keep it alone.
Thus, after nearly draining Richard’s life, she deliberately drew the dagger.
Infusing emotion into the blade, crushing his breath as she stabbed his corpse—she felt an unexpected release.
Thus, the ability to absorb life force was concealed beneath Richard’s blood.
Anger. Pain.
At the moment she killed him.
All the emotions she had suppressed burst forth.
For the first time, as she killed Richard, she felt truly alive.
It was profoundly immoral.
She knew she shouldn’t.
Yet seeing Richard’s arrogant face grow as pale as her own, she felt a joyous relief—now she could die.

‘…I wish he would just die already.’
Mercedes closed her eyes, hoping the week would pass quickly.
Rumors had begun to spread: “How could such a frail Crown Princess kill a martially skilled Crown Prince?” But Mercedes, locked in her cell, could not hear them.
[This is the timeline separator]“What terrible timing—this incident occurs while we’re in Shaym! Such a monstrous madwoman deserves the harshest punishment; it’ll make for fascinating entertainment.”
“That’s true. But attending the trial yourself? Isn’t that a bit much? The King of Shaym would be thrilled if His Majesty attended.”
Two gossipy attendants approached, but Carlos offered no reply.
All neighboring kingdoms of Shaym had been thrown into uproar.
The Crown Princess had strangled the Crown Prince. Could there be a more incendiary rumor?
Fortunately, the Queen and concubines of Shaym had borne many sons, so the royal line would not be broken… but this was no ordinary crime: the murder of the Crown Prince, the heir to the throne.
A crime so grave, even the daughter of a powerful count could not escape execution.
According to Carlos, the King could have simply dragged the Crown Princess out and beheaded her himself—and no one would have questioned it.
Yet the King had ordered a trial.
Clearly, beheading alone would not satisfy his wrath.
He likely intended the full punishment: the extermination of the entire Count’s family, perhaps even their limbs torn apart.
‘—Or perhaps… he intends to execute only the Crown Princess after the trial, sparing the Count’s family?’
The delay before the trial seemed too long for someone truly enraged—as if granting the Count’s family time to salvage everything.
Thus, multiple possibilities loomed within this trial.
Carlos mentally compiled the internal information about Shaym he had gathered.
The attendants seated beside him, oblivious to his silence, chattered incessantly.
“That’s true. Since His Majesty is here, attending the trial isn’t odd… but other minor kings aren’t coming! Your presence would make it more dramatic.”
“Oh? But His Majesty decided this… that’s disloyal, Logan.”
“It comes from loyalty.”
“I feel the same way, but since you’re already here, stop complaining.”
Abigail, another attendant, glared at the perpetually grumbling Logan.
Carlos did not reprimand them. He had not even revealed his purpose for attending the trial today.
The courtroom had come into view. A modest building, dwarfed by imperial standards.
“Now, behave respectfully.”
“Yes.”
With a light warning to his attendants, he stepped into the courtroom, his gaze cold.
Immediately, a slender, beautiful woman caught his eye—the same woman who had once met his gaze in the garden.
Carlos did not look away from her.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
