I Killed My Husband (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
The nurse pretended not to know about the events a week hence, smiling brighter and continuing to attend to her side.
Thanks to this, a week passed slowly, the atmosphere peaceful despite the knife held to Mercedes’ throat.
Time felt both slow and swift.
While searching for Gertrude’s escape route, preparing cash, secretly organizing the inner roster to erase the nurse’s traces, and immersing herself in preparation to erase her thoughts, she occasionally thought of death.
It was frightening, and sometimes death felt almost pleasant.
Strange.
Was she happy to die, or did she want to live? Was it unjust?
After all, a life worse than a corpse had no reason to be lived.
“Your Majesty! Would you like to eat?”
Just as she sank deeper into thought, Gertrude’s lively voice always slipped through.
“Very well. Prepare it.”
Gertrude seemed to strive to fill the few remaining days of her life with good memories, acting cheerful.
Not long after, the evening meal was laid out according to Gertrude’s instructions, and the two sat side by side to begin eating, just as in childhood.
“Today is turkey, Your Majesty’s favorite! Prepared with the finest ingredients.”
“…Hmm.”
Though labeled finest, it tasted of nothing. Mercedes chewed mechanically, as if swallowing sand.
For the past three days, it had been this way with every meal.
She lifted her goblet of wine, hoping to soothe her throat, and swallowed the mouthful—
“…Hrk?!”
“Your Majesty?”
Gertrude called from close by. A single sip had burned her esophagus like fire.
“Huh… hss…! Hrk!”
The wine, now poison, began churning inside Mercedes’ body. In that instant, she felt:
‘This… is the shadow of death.’
And instinctively, she reached out and seized Gertrude.
“N… nurse… the… the physician.”
“Your Majesty. I am sorry. You were so kind to me.”
The reply to her call for a physician was strange. As her mind grew hazy, Mercedes looked at Gertrude.
Her gaze was tender. Just as always—the same tenderness that had guarded her side.
“I had no choice.”
Gertrude offered an awkward smile. Mercedes vomited blood.
Mercedes clutched Gertrude’s arm tightly.
‘This can’t be.’
She had not been this startled even when ordered to commit suicide.
But this was different.
Gertrude could not act this way.
“W… who… who…!”
Mercedes mustered the last of her strength to speak.
Her eyes burst with blood vessels, blood streaming from her mouth—her appearance grotesque.
Gertrude gently cupped Mercedes’ cheek. Her face remained serene, despite the blood staining her clothes and hands.
“Hmm… I shall give you a gift from the path of death. You were kind to me, after all. You knew, didn’t you? That the Count, fearing his illegitimate child might be exposed, always kept someone close to properly watch over you?”
“Kuh… hck.”
“I truly did care. You were so pitiful. But, Your Majesty, I was more pitiful. You had money, you never went hungry.”
The nurse murmured dreamily.
“In any case, thank you, Your Majesty. Sometimes it hurt, having to take your punishments… but it was fine. The Count provided healers for me.”
‘Was all of this… just an act from the beginning?’
Gertrude had been the only person Mercedes had ever truly opened her heart to. The one who had even called her daughter.
‘Ah. So you always knew everything about me.’
Only now, facing death, did she understand. The Count’s household knew every detail of Mercedes’ life—even the smallest things.
Even after she entered the palace, they still knew.

She had thought the nurse was someone else. She had never guessed it was her.
She had believed that even if the entire world turned away, at least one person held her hand… but that person had tried to poison her.
‘I… hoped for too much. There could never be someone who cared for me.’
It felt like a sandstorm sweeping through a dry desert within her heart. The storm itself—bone-dry, scouring her chest.
“Huh… uh.”
Gertrude’s face in Mercedes’ vision blurred.
Death approached with every moment.
The burning sensation in her esophagus. The creeping shadow of darkness. The betrayal. The pain. The realization that she had never once breathed freely by her own will.
She pulled the trigger on it all.
The power her mother had always warned her never to use.
Unconsciously, Mercedes unleashed the power hidden within her.
The long-suppressed force circled within her body, then flowed out through her fingertips.
“Kuh… hck?! Y-Your… Your Majesty?!”
A sinister crimson glow seeped from Mercedes’ fingertips, wrapping around Gertrude’s arm. Simultaneously, Gertrude began to moan.
Her voice grew strange, her face paled.
Meanwhile, Mercedes’ face—having swallowed poison and vomited blood—gradually grew serene.
In that moment, Mercedes smiled. Softly, as she always did.
“Nurse… it doesn’t hurt.”
Mercedes rose, and gently asked the writhing Gertrude, collapsed on the floor.
Gertrude’s eyes darted wildly with confusion. She had not swallowed poison—this made no sense. Her breath grew tight, her strength drained, terrible pain struck like lightning.
“Huh… hck. Y-Your Majesty… wh-what…”
“How could I have ever expected anything from anyone? I suppose I was foolish.”
Mercedes spoke calmly, as always.
She did not understand what had happened, but her life now hung in Mercedes’ hands. Gertrude clung to her, pleading.
“P-please… s-spare me…!”
“How foolish. No one could ever love me.”
“Ahh, n-no…!”
“But Nurse… I do not wish to kill you. Violence and murder are wrong. You taught me that.”
“Yes, hhh…! Hck! Please, spare me…!”
Mercedes moved her hand, gently breathing a white light into Gertrude. Unlike the crimson, the white light was softly absorbed.
Slowly, Gertrude’s breath returned. She stared endlessly at Mercedes, tears streaming down her face.
Her pallid visage seemed hardly human—merely a body clinging to breath.
Mercedes dragged Gertrude to the bedpost and bound her hands and feet.
“In this state, you can barely speak, barely eat, barely walk. You might die trying to flee.”
“Huff…! Huff. I-I’m f-fine… f-fine.”
Gertrude gasped painfully, struggling to move away from Mercedes.
She never wished to feel that sensation again—the feeling that her life would be sucked away at the slightest touch.
“Nurse. If you speak of what you saw today, or ever mention this again to anyone, I cannot guarantee your life. This power will follow you.”
It was a lie—the power would not follow her—but it was enough for Gertrude.
She was gripped by terror.
“The one who ordered you to drink poison… was Father, wasn’t he?”
Gertrude nodded.
“You told Father that I was ordered to commit suicide.”
“Yes… y-yes.”
That made sense.
The suicide of the Crown Princess would cause a great scandal; if it stemmed from the Crown Prince’s displeasure, there would be no resolution.
So the plan was to stage her death as an accident, sudden illness, or unexpected demise—to preserve the Count’s honor.
It was not surprising.
“How absurd.”
Her father, her husband—they treated her life as a toy to be broken if it displeased them.

Was she mad? Now she thought she understood her father. How infuriating she must have been. Easier to kill than to endure.
“Yes… of course. After all, you’re an illegitimate child.”
‘If everyone wants me dead… do I even need to live?’
Mercedes found no hope in her future. Then… must she truly live?
“Do you… want to live?”
Mercedes asked, gazing at Gertrude, who wept and sniveled in pleading. Gertrude’s eyes widened and she nodded frantically.
“You tried to kill me, and now you don’t even know what your future holds… yet you still want to live?”
“Yes, y-yes. S-spare me… please.”
“Why do you want to live?”
Mercedes asked suddenly, before the woman’s fear. Gertrude fumbled her reply.
“…I… I think it’s… obvious. I’m… a person.”
‘Ah. I see.’
Mercedes realized. Perhaps because she herself had no desire to live, no one could ever love her.
Unlike Gertrude—who had always been earnest, even while deceiving and betraying her—Mercedes had remained indifferent to all torment. She was worse than a corpse.
Then what of her?
She wanted revenge—as one worse than a corpse could.
After gagging Gertrude, Mercedes stepped out of the room, still in her nightgown.
[This is the timeline separator]“Your Majesty, the Crown Princess has come to visit.”
“At this hour? Hmm… Let her in.”
Only three days had passed, yet she came already.
She had surely come to beg and repent. Everyone loses their composure before death.
Richard awaited Mercedes, wondering how dreadful her face would look.
Mercedes entered the chamber.
Dressed only in her nightgown, with a robe loosely thrown over it, she appeared vacant, distant.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
