The Elawe tribe were all pale and ghostly white, and knew nothing of martial arts.

Yet they charged at Karkan without a trace of fear, their eyes burning with longing for fertile land.

Later, it was said their nickname was “The Tribe of Death.”

The Elawe possessed the power to steal a person’s breath and convert it into a one-time spell.

They would hoard stolen breaths, then unleash magic that drained life force upon skin contact or eye contact. The hands of the Elawe were like the touch of demons.

Karkan, who had never known defeat in war, suffered a great blow upon first confronting the Elawe. The Elawe, too, suffered greatly.

“We cannot leave such creatures unchallenged!”

“We are those who cherish life and wield the power of the earth. For the sake of justice, we must eradicate those who wield death!”

Chaos erupted in Karkan.

Both Karkan and the Elawe drew power by stealing life, but Karkan had at least rationalized its use through hunting or just wars.

Their vile appearance and their absurd magical abilities seemed grotesque beyond measure.

Thus, Karkan launched a surprise assault on the Elawe, who were reorganizing and preparing to invade.

No one could be blamed. The Elawe had come to seize land, and surely had their own desperate reasons; Karkan could not retreat from the fertile soil.

It was, at the time, a natural war.

But whereas Karkan, fearing the Elawe’s mysterious power, had cloaked their actions in “justice” to form alliances with other tribes, Karkan nearly exterminated the Elawe.
