Watching Illeon, who had barely fallen asleep, Rona’s eyes were slightly damp.

“This is strange.”

The butler wore a grave expression.

“This seizure is lasting far too long. There’s never been a case like this before.”

When treating Illeon’s eyes, he had been in pain, but the symptoms usually stopped within a day or two.

Yet this time, despite having taken the medicine only once, Illeon’s seizure had persisted for six days. According to Bernar, even after taking the medicine multiple times, the seizures had always ceased within a day or two. Never before had he suffered so long after just a single dose.

This anomaly simultaneously kindled hope—“Maybe this time, unlike previous medicines, it actually has some effect?”—and stoked anxiety—“What if the pain never fades and just continues every day?”

As time passed, Rona felt like she was going mad.

She tormented herself with the certainty that she had made the medicine incorrectly and with guilt that Illeon was suffering because of her.

Illeon, confined to bed for nearly a week without eating or drinking properly, had grown thin and gaunt. Every time she looked at him, tears welled up uncontrollably, so much so that she’d learned to quickly dab them away with a handkerchief instead of sobbing. That was because whenever she cried, Illeon would forget his own plight and try to comfort her instead.

“If only Karina had made the medicine, Illeon would have opened his eyes by now.”

It was all her fault for recklessly attempting to brew medicine without truly understanding it.

“Illeon. I wanted to give you back yourself.”

But perhaps that outcome wasn’t destined after all—Karina had strayed from her role as heroine, and Illeon remained blind. She ought to see the original ending to return to her world, yet that no longer seemed important.

“I wish I’d been the protagonist.”
