Clodel reassured those fussing over her as if to say she needn’t be worried about.

“I suppose you’ve been especially anxious since Hanna gave birth to the baby.”

At her words, the ladies instantly brightened. It wasn’t easy for them to find common ground with the Duchess—whose origins lay in the distant Valmont and whose life story was far from ordinary.
