Why does the weekend always fly by like an arrow?

Well, that’s because the weekend is only two days while weekdays are five. I tried to wake myself up, recalling this obvious fact.

Rubbing my sleepy eyes, I spread strawberry jam and peanut butter evenly on my toast. After reincarnating as an American for about a year, I’ve grown quite fond of bread even for breakfast.

As I took a bite of toast and chewed quietly, Timothy handed me a plate of scrambled eggs and asked,

“Juno, are you riding Bucephalus again today? I’ll give you a ride to school!”

Bucephalus is the name of Timothy’s sports car. Ever since he got his new car, he’s been annoyingly eager to pick me up or drop me off every single time, clearly riding high on that new-car high.

Thinking of his shiny red sports car that still gleamed brightly since its recent purchase, I glanced sideways at Timothy.

“No, I’ll go alone today.”

“Huh? But…”

“Bro, didn’t you say you’re going jogging with your high school friends this morning? Don’t worry about me—just go.”

I quickly brought up that excuse before Timothy could cling to me with his usual disappointment.

At that, Timothy’s eyes widened as if he’d just remembered.

“Oh right! I totally forgot. Then you go alone today—I’ll definitely give you a ride tomorrow, Juno!”

“Alright.”

I easily shook off Timothy, finished my breakfast, and slung my bag over my shoulder. As I walked across the garden, yawning widely, something blue appeared behind the low wooden gate.
