As the moon, previously veiled by clouds, revealed itself, the shadowy forms of the earth wraiths and the human-like figure began to take on hazy shapes beneath its soft glow.

“Grrrrrrr.”

James bared his teeth, feeling an instinctive revulsion toward the earth wraiths and the being standing behind them. The wrinkles on his nose and his sharply exposed fangs were unmistakably those of a wolf.

His mind cleared as if a cold wind had suddenly swept through his head while he slept deeply, and his eyes snapped open.

By the time James regained his senses, he was already sprinting across the garden at full speed toward the things he wanted to kill.

What had begun as running on two legs had soon turned into four, and his jet-black, razor-sharp claws and nails had grown long and jagged, leaving deep gouges in the earth wherever he passed.

As he ran, crushing the soft ground beneath his feet, a strange mix of exhilaration and fear swirled within him.

“James! No!”

He heard Oton’s voice cry out from somewhere. Thinking of his earth sprite friends only strengthened his resolve to destroy those creatures.

They kept appearing stealthily at every opportunity—it seemed they absolutely could not be allowed to live.

Earth sprites hastily revealed themselves from all around.

Hearing his name called from every direction, James leaped into the air. Countless eyes filled with worry and shock followed his soaring form in slow motion.

He landed from his high jump without making even the faintest sound upon touching the ground.

The earth wraiths, who had gathered densely before the gate, recoiled backward as if repelled by a magnet of the same pole at the sudden appearance of the wolf boy. It was their instinctive fear and aversion.

Earth wraiths and beastkin were natural opposites. The distance between James and the earth sprites was now merely two or three meters.
