Like a swarm of locusts, they moved from village to village, gnawing away the outer shells of all living things. Every living creature except plants became Valkam’s prey.

They made no distinction between humans, livestock, or insects. In some ways, they were even more troublesome to deal with than Morath.

Thus, wherever Valkam passed, corpses stripped bare of their skin lay scattered like enormous chunks of meat. There was no scene more horrifying than this massacre.

Moreover, reports of monster pack attacks continued for a while along the imperial border regions. Both the types of monsters and the damage inflicted varied widely.

As the meeting dragged on, the assembled nobles grew increasingly somber.

“Your Majesty, something seems amiss. How could monsters, which had been quiet until now, suddenly move all at once as if they’d made a pact?”

“It’s also suspicious that their numbers are growing rapidly despite it not being their breeding season. Please take a look at this.”

Harrison spread out the map he had prepared onto the table. At the center of the map, the imperial capital was marked with a red circle.

After confirming that the nobles’ eyes had turned to the map, Harrison slowly continued.

“These yellow markings indicate villages recently attacked by monsters.”

The nobles, staring at the map, shook their heads in disbelief.

“You mean the monsters truly attacked all these areas?”

“Yes, I’ve marked only those villages that were attacked simultaneously on the same day.”

At Harrison’s reply, the nobles looked utterly shocked. The yellow circles on the map all represented villages situated at an equal distance from the red circle.

In effect, the yellow circles formed a ring encircling the central red one.
