Marien couldn’t find her words again. It felt as if she’d been struck hard on the head with a hammer. She was dazed—completely unable to gather her wits.

Yet, it wasn’t an unpleasant feeling. Nadia, for her part, didn’t seem to want any thanks from her.

“As far as I know, you don’t have any other appointments—unless there’s some dinner engagement I’m unaware of?”

When Marien remained silent, Christoph pressed her gently, his voice laced with subtle insistence. His narrowed eyes seemed to be probing her carefully.

“Well… there isn’t one, but…”

Marien trailed off, glancing cautiously at Nadia.

“Fine.”

Only then did his intensity ease. Christoph, now back to his usual expression, turned toward Nadia.

“Then I shall see you tomorrow evening, Your Highness. I’ll send someone to confirm the time and place. We have other matters to attend to, so we’ll take our leave now. Come along, Marien.”

“Uh… um, yes. Understood, Christoph. Take care on your way, Your Highness.”

Marien bowed slightly to Nadia and started walking away with Christoph. Her lips twitched as she kept glancing back over her shoulder.

The churning in her stomach quickly subsided, and the dark shadow that had been swelling inside her vanished without a trace.

I really am a fickle person.

Marien bit down lightly on her lips, trying to suppress the hollow smile threatening to escape. After a few steps, Christoph spoke up in a disgruntled tone.
