Though it was already late at night, the walls of the Wulin Alliance compound glowed brightly with lanterns beyond the window.

The Leader of the Martial Alliance had left the meeting room to issue various orders, including the lockdown decree, while the Head of the Murong Clan was carried away by a physician to rest. The other clan heads and sect leaders remained in the meeting room, as did Master and I.

Of course, this was only proper.

At an event attended by most righteous sects and clans, an unknown demon had nearly taken control of none other than the Head of the Murong Clan—one of the Five Great Clans—to extract information. This was clearly an unprecedented crisis.

‘If neither I nor the Leader of the Martial Alliance had noticed anything… that demon might have continued observing the meeting while still occupying the Murong Clan Head’s body.’

It was highly likely that had been the demon’s very purpose from the start.

‘Yet it didn’t seem particularly desperate.’

If it truly were desperate, it wouldn’t have given up so easily.

‘In other words, suppressing another’s consciousness and seizing full control of their body must be relatively effortless for that creature.’

Just as it had done to me before, and again now—why do these fiends take such pleasure in meddling with others’ minds and bodies?
