“Sir Joyce, His Grace and Miss Tilbeth have begun their meal, so please go and have yours now.”

The butler spoke to Joyce, who had been standing outside the dining hall lost in thought.

“Oh! Right, I should. Do you wait to eat until His Grace has finished?”

“Yes! That’s correct. However, I must stop by the kitchen briefly, per the Duke’s instructions.”

“How can the butler leave such an important occasion? Let me handle it instead. What needs to be done?”

“Oh, would you really? It’s not anything particularly important, but the Duke emphasized it strongly.”

It was hard to understand how something the Duke had stressed so firmly could possibly be unimportant.

“You know Klein Reeden, right? He returned injured, carried in the Duke’s arms.”

“Oh! Yes, what about Reeden?”

Joyce’s brow instinctively furrowed.

“The Duke instructed me to bring Reeden’s dinner to His Grace’s study. He specifically said not to enter the valet’s room—just leave the meal outside the door and deliver the message. Well… it’s an order, so I’ll follow it, but… it feels rather odd that I’m now preparing meals for a valet. Is Klein Reeden in very poor condition? No one’s seen him since he was brought in yesterday.”

Hearing the butler’s words, Joyce finally scowled. Klein Reeden—just what was so special about that fellow?

“Did Klein play some major role in the Duke’s recent schedule?”

“……Well, old man, you’d best stay here and properly attend to the meal service. I’ll handle His Grace’s instructions myself.”
