“Please!”

Chloe pleaded, writhing desperately. At that moment, the Duke’s grip loosened. It was as if the word “please” had been a command word that instantly moved him.

“Klein! What are you doing!”

But already Carcus’s shout crashed down over her back. At the sound of his voice, Chloe felt as if her heart had plummeted straight into her stomach.

She couldn’t understand why she felt this way. She hadn’t done anything wrong. She had merely tried to cover a guest who’d fallen asleep without a blanket.

“Carcus, what’s wrong with you! It was just a little accident… Ah! Carcus!”

Forced to push herself up by pressing both hands just above the Duke’s chest, Chloe suddenly cried out in shock. Carcus had swiftly grabbed one of her arms and yanked her, nearly causing her to roll right off the sofa. Fortunately, her knees hit the carpet beneath the sofa first.

“Oh, sorry! I’m really sorry—are you okay?”

Carcus, finally realizing he’d pulled Chloe too roughly, released her arm and blushed.

“No, I was just startled. It doesn’t hurt.”

Chloe quickly stood up as she answered Carcus, though her eyes had already shifted toward the Duke. By then, the Duke had already sat upright on the sofa.

“Duke Ulphaz! What on earth did you do to Klein!”

Carcus, having confirmed she was unharmed, immediately raised his voice at the Duke.

What did he do? Duke Ulphaz? She’d been worried since yesterday about why Carcus had been losing his temper so recklessly, without any fear or manners.

What did the Duke even do? Just now… that was… surely just a startled reaction from sleepwalking, right? A simple mistake.
