Hughgray never regretted having decided to sleep at Klein’s house. Yet, he was miserable, because he’d encountered a strange incident he couldn’t begin to understand.

An unpleasant smell emanated from Klein’s mother’s room. It resembled Klein’s scent but was oddly and intensely foul. He couldn’t comprehend how such a stench could come from Klein’s mother’s room.

Was it because the lion beastkin was still staying in this house?

But this smell was even more unbearable than that creature’s usual odor… It was exactly like… No, it must definitely be because of that lion.

Hughgray hastily erased the memory of the smell that threatened to surface in his mind. It was the scent he despised most, and he had no desire whatsoever to associate it with Klein’s mother.

Because of the lingering, repulsive stench soaked deep into every corner of the bedding, he couldn’t even bear to approach Klein’s mother’s bed. Despite being utterly exhausted from not sleeping at all the previous night due to being in heat, he knew he simply wouldn’t be able to sleep in this room.

Sigh… Nothing about that Klein is ever easy. Even though I’ve already resolved to give up being an alpha, I can’t even get a proper night’s rest in his house.

He stood by the window, breathing in the fresh air for hours, until finally, just before dawn, when all sounds had faded away, he slipped out into the living room.

In the darkness, he walked all the way to the door of the room Klein had entered and stood there with his eyes closed for a long while, as though trying to purify his contaminated sense of smell—or perhaps as if drawing sustenance from Klein’s sleeping scent through the door.

Once his senses sharpened, he could even hear Klein’s steady, gentle breathing.

He sleeps so peacefully. Meanwhile, his host hasn’t had a wink of sleep for two days straight.

Unfairness and resentment welled up inside him, despite knowing full well his feelings were one-sided—childish, foolish, even pathetic.

He scoffed at himself and finally lay down on the sofa. But the sofa was ridiculously short for his height; both his head and feet stuck out from either end, so he wasn’t so much lying down as perched awkwardly on it.

Hughgray Ulphaz. So this is where you’ve come to—sleeping not even on a servant’s bed, but on a living room sofa.

Yet by now, he no longer had the will to feel ashamed of himself. He could no longer pretend to ignore his own feelings—or even wanted to.
