A dog and a cat? Could this guild member possibly be a fraud?
No—given that he’d actually tracked down five women named Chloe, he must have done some real investigating. Yet he came back spreading absurd rumors that she was a beastkin and even made up that strange lie about dogs and cats fighting.
“Did you actually visit that inn yourself?”

He must’ve jumped to conclusions based solely on the inn’s name—unaware that she had stayed there three times herself.

The guild member’s face flushed red with anger—so convincingly furious that Chloe briefly wondered if he might actually be telling the truth.
She wanted to protest that there were neither dogs nor cats at that inn, but she couldn’t say anything without revealing that she herself had been there.
“Didn’t you say there were dogs and cats at that inn? So there were both dogs and cats? Exactly how many were there?”
Instead, she changed her approach and asked questions.
