As the Emperor descended into the lobby and passed through the first-floor corridor, the palace attendants bowed deeply and retreated to one side of the hallway.

Carson strode through them as though spewing flames.

Then, suddenly, his steps halted.

Those following him immediately froze in place as well, and once again a silence as profound as if a gunshot had just echoed settled over the stillness.

The Emperor tilted his head slightly in puzzlement. After pausing briefly in that posture, he slowly turned his face with a creaking motion. Frowning and raising one eyebrow, he stomped heavily toward the bowing attendants.

He stopped abruptly before a man with black hair.

“You….”

Hearing the Emperor’s voice from above, the black-haired man lifted his gaze.

Their eyes met, and the fair-complexioned, dark-haired man straightened his back only to bow again respectfully to the Emperor. But as the Emperor merely stared at him without a word, the man’s face grew steadily paler.

“You dyed your hair.”

The moment those words left his lips, Carson reached out and roughly seized a fistful of the man’s front hair. The man’s body rose into the air along with his hair, revealing the red roots to everyone watching.

Carson gave a cold, sardonic smile as he looked at him.

“I’ve never once forgotten the face of someone I’ve seen before.”

The man gasped sharply, drawing in a breath.

“So it’s you, Martin Blake.”
