How To Choose A Knight (28 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 91
I sent a letter to Broen Castle as soon as dawn broke.
With enough money, delivery was instantaneous—and of course, people arrived just as quickly.
“Miss Jade.”
“Oh, Bernard and Mori. It’s been ages since I’ve seen you both together! How have you been?”
Bernard stood with an utterly exhausted expression, while Mori Abbers scanned the surroundings with a puzzled look in her eyes.
Unlike Bernard, whose face was unshaven and clothes crumpled from clearly not having groomed himself lately, Mori was so immaculately polished that her glasses seemed transparent, with not a single thing out of place on her person.
Their situations were probably similar, yet their appearances were so different it was amusing just to watch.
Jade gave a small smile and asked,
“Did you both come straight from work?”
“Of course. Have you perhaps been resting?”
“The expenses for this coming-of-age ceremony are enormous. I’m at my wit’s end just trying to balance the numbers. My eyes feel blurry already.”
Every time such talk came up, Jade—who had plenty of reasons to feel guilty—cleared her throat awkwardly.
“What’s so busy and expensive? I never asked for much, did I?”
Bernard and Mori spoke at the same time. They were talking so loudly that Jade couldn’t catch a single word clearly, so she simply covered her ears for a moment.
“Yes, yes. Anyway, I called you here because I have something to discuss. For you two, it just felt… something I’d rather say in person than in a letter.”
